Foley was in truth a man of honor. Thank you for this remembrance.

(26,518 posts)I saw her behind the Boner all during the shutdown.
I shudder at how near she is to me, and that she is now in the position held by Foley!
I got redistricted in with a western Washington district, such that although he's a Repub, he's fairly "moderate." Dave Reichert supported voting on a clean CR pretty much all along, and did vote to re-open.
Yuk for McMorris Rogers!

(27,670 posts)I called his office because I was all pissed off about out of state nuclear waste being transported to Washington after we'd voted to prevent it. An aide answered and started giving me this total line of bullshit. Then in the background I heard Rep. Foley say something like, "jeebuscripes, just give me the phone" and he got on the phone and clearly and simply explained how it was a constitutional issue that had to do with the right of interstate transportation.
I was broken hearted when he got voted out of office.
He was a good guy, and the best Rep I ever had in my entire life.
RIP, sir.

(27,670 posts)That's why he was one of the very few politicians I placed any real trust in during my lifetime. The only Congressperson I've ever felt genuinely privileged to have represent me.
He was an old school Democrat, and the rare politician with integrity. I remember practically jumping for joy when he called out Reagan early in Reagan's first term, saying that his policies were going to cause catastrophic deficits. Wow, did he ever call that one on the nose.
He said everything flat out plain and simple. There was never any question about what Tom Foley meant when he spoke about an issue, and he did not waste words.
I despise weasel speak. People who speak in weasel tongue are hiding something; they have an agenda they are hiding.
That's one major reason I'm impressed by Rep Grayson, he's direct.

(18,470 posts)He was an actual statesman. Unlike the current speaker, who wasn't fit to clean Mr. Foley's toilets.
