(23,156 posts)Every single person is finding that the ACA plans are cheaper, in some cases cheaper by 60% or more.
One poster reported going from $1800/month to $800/month, for himself and an older (as in about 19 or so) child.

(3,596 posts)I am no expert in this area but as I understand it, prior to the ACA, companies would offer "dirt-cheap" policies for healthy persons that covered virtually nothing with high deductibles.
The ACA raised the bar and required policies cover preventive care, etc. in order to ensure that individuals actually had coverage for the kinds of things they would likely need to use.
It is a double-edged sword. You allow policies with virtually no coverage for cheap or you require some basement level of coverage and prices rise.

(16,289 posts)I want the online site to work. I have gotten all the way through to the ID verification process, received an email telling me to upload my driver's license, which I did about three weeks ago, then kept getting the message that the application was "pending". Then yesterday and today I log in and nothing - blank screen.
How is it that I could get through the entire process three weeks ago (up to the point I mentioned) and now can't even get on? What the heck kind of software people do they have working on it anyway? My son's a software engineer for 25 years and he keeps saying these sorts of problems aren't that difficult if you know what you're doing. He is in the defense industry and deals with things a whole lot more complicated than this.
So why can't they fix it?
