Ringo Starr in search for teenage Beatles fans in 1964 photograph

Ringo Starr is searching for five Americans now in their sixties who he photographed during The Beatles’ first trip to the US almost 50 years ago.

Then teenagers, the group were snapped by the drummer when they pulled up to the band’s car in their convertible in Miami Beach, Florida, in February 1964.

The snapshot is among 240 being published for the first time in Photograph, a book of pictures taken by Starr, now 73, around the world during his long career in music.

“It’s just a great shot,” he writes in the book. “They're looking at us and I'm photographing them.” A sixth teen, who is barely visible, is sitting in the back seat of the car.

During the same stay in Miami, The Beatles were photographed playing on a beach and joking around with Muhammad Ali, the champion heavyweight boxer

Maybe because they're dressed for English weather:

Doubts were initially raised about whether the photograph could have been taken in Miami, given that the teenagers were wearing thick coats and jumpers. However after consulting Old Farmer’s Almanac, The Miami Herald reported that the city suffered a cold snap during The Beatles’ visit.

Ringo's getting nostalgic. I only have warm feelings for him myself.

England always takes its time with recognizing its rockers, who have done more to endear the country to the world than anyone. Plus, anyone who could keep up with Keith Moon should at least be considered for knighthood.

His crazy rolls STILL blow me out of the water! Ringo was a better technical drummer, although he, by his own admission, couldn't roll to save his life!

It's about 600 pages long and I was sorry to see it end. The Who were such an awesome band and Moon was absolutely essential. When it's not appalling or sad it's LOL funny. The stuff this guy used to do...like dressing up his friend Viv Stanshall as a vicar, dropping him off from his Bentley on some high street, letting him walk five minutes then catch up to him, get out, and pretend to beat the crap out of him, just to see how people would react. And that's what he would do at home, you know, the touring stories...

called "Meet the Beatles" with slightly fewer tracks ( the US wanted to make more money) and released by Epiphone's US partner Capitol Records.

Trivia: although most of these early recordings were done in monophonic sound, the instruments were recorded separately from the vocals. Since stereophonic sound was becoming the "next big thing" many of these monophonic recordings were released in the US with the instruments in one channel and the vocals in the other and advertised as "stereophonic".

On a personal note, I was conversing about how early stereophonic sound was being experimented with in the '70s and one of the "youngsters" in the conversation said she experienced one of these experiments and thought something was wrong with her speakers.

*sigh*
