I *will* grave dance.
Bad form? I don't give a shit.
He is an evil man who is beyond redemption. He has zero redeeming qualities, none. He is a plague on this country.
The damage he has done to all of us, and the world, is immense.
Call me callous if you want. Call me childish. I don't care.
I will pop open a bottle of champaign when his second heart finally gives out.

(4,926 posts)fast enough. For the guy that spearheaded the invasion of Iraq to criticize any one on policy and not have the interviewer laugh in his face annoys the hell out of me.

(82,383 posts)anyone who says it is "bad form" at that point should be carefully considered for trolldom.
Cheney stands for everything a liberal passionately opposes. Furthermore, the "sympathy" to be extended to offspring in these situations does not apply as they've both proven they follow his ideas.

(5,756 posts)There is no evidence that evil bastard feels he's done anything shameful or wrong. Not CIA rendition and torture, not the lies about WMD in Iraq - nothing. I don't think he's living in humiliation because he's still delusional as hell and thinks he did everything right.
gulliver
(13,985 posts)It must kill him to think that a whole lot of Republicans wince whenever they see his face. He's like George W. Bush. True, eventually the people will forget. Look at Strom Thurmond. Right now Cheney still pays Democrats dividends whenever he shows up. He's delusional like you say, and that makes him a perfect spokesman for Republicans. People see it. He knows it too.

(64,371 posts)My bet is that he and his family know how toxic he is and will have him cremated so we won't have a specific place to defile his "resting place." I wish we could defile him now.
I hope the cremation obliterates his spirit and soul. He was truly a heartless fucker, even taking a heart at age 71 that would serve a younger, kinder person better in this world. I think his transplant doctor sold out, too.

(15,629 posts)I wrote what I wanted to say to GW Bush when he left office, and it certainly applies to Cheney as well.
Death is too good for these criminals.
I'd tell you to go fuck yourself
But that is much too kind
Because if you could perform that feat
You'd take pleasure in your behind
I'd like to say eat shit and die
But you deserve much more
You should suffer all the grief and pain
Of your misbegotten war
Though I can never make you feel
Or think, or understand
I'll take solace when you hear your name
Cursed throughout the land
From inside a lonely prison cell
Dark and bare and cold
Where every day you pay for your crimes
Till you're sick, heartbroken, and old
Then when you finally leave the Earth
You fucked over oh so well
If there is a God and afterlife
You're going straight to hell

Thinks he did a great job - only didn't go far enough (since "poor" scooter libby was left without a pardon at the end - FUCK HIM TOO!). He is unrepentant. I'm not one to judge, but that's one reason I'd expect him to be headed Downstairs after he dies. I feel bad for the heart transplant donor. ... so THIS bastard could live.

For every truly-evil asshole, there's a mother, wife, child, grandchild, close friend,...who is a kind and truly-decent person who loves them unconditionally and will be hurt immensely by us dancing on their grave.
We do not behave honorably at the passing of our enemies for the benefit of the dead but for the benefit of the living.

(64,371 posts)some grave dancing. I doubt he was really "friends" with DICK. I think they knew some of the same people and that woman (Armstrong?) got him there to "hunt" (booze it up, chase booty, and fire some guns). I bet he regrets ever going to the ranch that day.

(22,685 posts)and your sentiments are noted.
I have looked his wife Lynn and his daughter Liz and found them seriously wanting in the humanity department, plus can't think of a single one of his potential friends I care enough about to protect or respect their right to serious grieving. I think they are not people who love unconditionally.
I know there is the other daughter, Mary I think, with her wife and children, and I suspect they will get over it.
I for one will dance.
And remain honorable.
calimary
(90,021 posts)I'm sure they'll be bereft. I certainly won't be!!! And as for Mary Cheney, I'd have hoped she'd have been the one person in that family that might help redeem them just a little, through gay activism and working for change. But I don't see that in her.
Shit - I still resent John Edwards for passing on that golden opportunity at the Vice Presidential debate, when the subject of cheney's daughter came up. He just tiptoed around it. He could have gotten in such a HUGE smack across the teeth!
Just imagine: the question comes up and they both turn into loving dads and that's that. But then, after John Edwards responded with that rather simplistic sympathetic comment, imagine if he would have said something like - "...and I just think it's a shame, Dick (or however he addressed the bastard), that a few weeks ago when you and mr. bush accepted the nomination of your party at the convention, on the last night, with the whole world watching, and all your families were up on stage in the spotlight with the band playing and the confetti and the wild cheers and applause and such a feel-good moment for everyone - maybe the FINEST night of your whole life - YOUR whole family could not be up on that stage. Your daughter and her partner were forced to stay out of sight, and could not be up on stage taking their rightful place ON that stage WITH the rest of your family and all of the bushes as well, celebrating in the spotlight together. As they should have been. But no. They had to be hidden away. Even on THAT night of ALL nights, you couldn't bring your own daughter whom you love, and her partner, up on stage with the rest of HER family to share in that moment - because she's gay. And that you somehow couldn't afford to look at all those judgmental, narrow-minded followers of yours and say 'NEVER MIND, YOU! She's MY DAUGHTER. And I LOVE HER. And she's got every right to come up here in front of EVERYBODY to be part of this and share it and if that bothers anybody's 'morality' then THAT'S TOO DAMN BAD!"
Can you imagine what a moment that would have been? I would have had a lot of respect for that. And John Edwards just let that exquisitely golden opportunity slip away. MAN he could have drawn serious blood with a retort like that.
pipi_k
(21,020 posts)my dilemma as well.
Considering this whole topic from a more personal POV, I have a BIL who is in poor health.
This man, back in the 80s, and perhaps before that, ruined the lives of lots of people. He is a convicted child molester.
One of those little girls was my daughter.
I know that when he dies, I will have to make an appearance, at the wake at least, for the sake of my sister and my two nieces (he has four other daughters and a son from a previous marriage).
I will have to say "I'm so sorry for your loss", all the while wanting to do a goddamned fist pump and yell, "YEAH, you dirty pedophile pig bastard, I hope you rot in HELL!!!"
I know I probably shouldn't grave dance, even in private, but I also know that I'm only human, and I probably will. In private.
The only thing I'll really be sorry for is that my younger brother (same generation as my own two kids) died in 2011 and will not be here to gravedance along with us. He'll never know that the fucker who molested our little sister (as well as my daughter) no longer walks the earth.
So. Will I gravedance when Cheney's ticket gets cashed in? I dunno. But I certainly won't shed any tears for that asshole.
Who probably also has people who love/loved him, but I...and we here at DU...won't be among them.
treestar
(82,383 posts)But in this case, both of his daughters have publicly supported his politics.
I will feel bad for the grandchildren. They might have seen what heart there is in the old bastard.

"Pray for the Day" should be a sub-group, an organization, a movement nationwide that pre-declares a day of celebration two days after he dies. But I want it big time publicized now. (20,870 posts)For years I've used his name whenever someone good passes. I use it when someone doesn't have insurance to properly care for a heart ailment and could certainly bring his name up in a theological discussion. Surely no righteous God would allow such a mere mortal to roam the Earth.
I don't know if I have a more emphatic living example, so I guess I'll miss him when they finally try to bury his heartless carcass.
BTW... you won't be the first to do a proper grave dance on such a deserving soul, so I say have at it.

(15,690 posts)He will likely outlive us all.
It is undeniably true that the world would be a better place without him, his equally evil wife, Lynne, and his demon spawn, Liz.
But if Democrats can stay unified and reclaim both houses of Congress in addition to retaining the Presidency and then build up the grassroots at local and state levels so that the US can become a role model for democracy and finally live up to the ideals espoused in its Constitution, then that would be the greatest punishment of all for him and his ilk. He is the antithesis of those ideals.
