Staying in the Hyatt on Capitol Hill tonight...

Any suggestions for dinner and/or bar in the area (with Mrs. Intern so don't get funny!)...

...and if I run into a Teabagger Rep or Senator, suggestion for an opening line...? (Besides the F-word!)

We were there a couple weeks ago and did La Tiramisu on P Street just west of DuPont Circle about half a block. Also did Centro on Penn at 11th. Not sure where your tastes run but we thought both were very good.

Chinatown is to your west. I'd recommend Cuba Libre: they have a coconut milk, mussel, shrimp, and squid soup called "The Soup to Wake the Dead" that is amazing. It's at 10th & H NW. There's also Hill Country Barbecue is a great brisket and ribs place at I think 7th & E NW.

If you're looking for more of a bar experience, go east and go to the H street area. There's too many bars and clubs to name, but I can particularly recommend Argo, which unfortunately is at the far end of the drag at 16th & H NE, so it's a bit of a hike. Little Miss Whiskey is closer, but doesn't have food (but does have awesome bartenders and a great liquor selection).

If you're up for metroing, go to the Eastern Market metro stop and go to Barracks Row, which is 8th St SE. You can see the Marine Barracks and there are a ton of great restaurants.

(Also, that Hyatt may call itself "Capitol Hill", but where you are is actually "Swampoodle".)

2. The Raven in Mount Pleasant
3. The Wonderland Ballroom in Columbia Heights
4. The Looking Glass Lounge in Petworth
5. Little Miss Whiskey on H Street NE
6. Argo on H Street NE
7. The Tune Inn on Pennsylvania Ave SE
8. The American Legion Post #8 on C St SE (if you're not a Legionnaire you'll have to convince someone to sign you in)

That's quite a bar crawl for one night, but if you're feeling crazy...

So many things to walk to!

My dinner recommendation is a lovely stroll down Pennsylvania Avenue, and where it jogs prior to the White House, is one of the most venerable Washington restaurants: the Old Ebbit Grille. Since 1856. The food is great, the atmosphere unequalled, and you might even see a celeb.

Don't forget to go around the corner from your hotel to Union Station. It's beautiful. Good snacking there, and souvenirs.
