(37,549 posts)I don't think they were the same. BBI couldn't stray beyond the cut and paste without sounding like a complete idiot.
I'm listening!

(10,044 posts)or a couple of them? I know I read several of them but never was affected by them in any way that I could remember as good or bad. Non-interest was something I may have felt.

(82,383 posts)posts just under the line, and then a post linking to a piece in Forbes by a right winger who advised Rmoney.
That was what did BBI in, too. Eventually forget and linked to an outright right wing site.

(15,438 posts)Who's to say that dkf was just one person?
It could have been a group behind the single moniker.
I base that on the experience of having debated a certain poster on another site (that AOL bought up) who clearly had more than one person responding to me. I counted about three, judging by the "tone" (one was congenial, one was assertive and stubborn, and one was outright abrasive with LOTS of hateful personal attacks).
What I'm curious about is, what did "dkf" stand for? "Don't Know F*ck"? That's what popped up in my mind's eye every time I saw the moniker. Or . . . I just have a more filthier mind that I care to admit.

(53,061 posts)You mean all of those 19 year olds that are chatting with obese 50 year old guys aren't, in fact, all 19 year old cheer leaders?

(53,235 posts)We stumble over which to use when trying to communicate. When we start using pe and per instead of he/she and him/her, it won't matter anymore.

(151,269 posts)Screen names can be neutral and many DU screen names give no clue. Additionally, a lot of DUers leave that blank in their profiles. So, I never assume anything at all about a DUer's gender.
I try not to use any gender specific pronouns when I do talk about DUers in the third person, which rarely even happens.
When necessary, I just use the screen name.

(4,795 posts)How do you know other people aren't fooling you?
Rex
(65,616 posts)Seriously? Didn't you just answer you own question. I've been told that there are conservative dems here and for a long long time I thought that was what dfk was. Up until she/he lost it over the IRS and sounded just like a fundie.
How does anyone know if they are being fooled? They don't.
NoOneMan
(4,795 posts)Exactly. There is a narrative being pushed here about dfk's authenticity. If such a narrative is true, it undermines many of the progressive points dfk would post (casting them as works of a troll). But the reality is, we cannot know dfk's intentions whatsoever. So to adopt a narrative of others (many "middle-wayers" mind you) is opening the door to being fooled. Even claiming dfk fooled you is an expression of belief in this narrative. Believe nothing about people you don't know. Its pointless on the internet anyway mind you.
Regardless of what this poster said, judge each unique argument on its merits (not its poster, or not its poster's alleged motives--alleged by others mind you). You do not have to buy into an ad hominem that may be baseless, anymore than you have defend this poster. In anycase, what is done is done.
