a very good friend, a life-long Republican, who voted for Bush twice is applying for Obamacare

and yes, I have Republican friends

She has a pre-existing condition. Her husband is retiring soon.
She just had her first grandchild today and is considering retiring as well.

She still dislikes Obama and the "welfare state"....

(this is where I bite my tongue or try not to trip on it)

But there you go.

She actually said "Obamacare is better than no care at all".

I had to agree with her.

peace, kp

it is always when it affects them, personally. It is always about "me."

I'm payroll and benefits admin for a school district. One of our teachers, a known Republican (his whole nice lifestyle is thanks to unions, major cognitive dissonance here) came into my office the minute he could add his 24-year-old son to his insurance because of "that Obama crap". I make a point of never discussing politics at work but he probably saw the steam coming out of my ears.

When I pointed out to him that he'd been paid by taxpayers all his career and now was being paid by them for retirement, he went ballistic. He pointed out that he's not lazy like other people who are paid by taxpayers. When I ask for examples, it always boils down to racism.

He's Scot-Irish heritage, the rest of his family hav been on one form or another of unemployment, disability, welfare, good stamps, for decades but he says "That's different".

Oh well, as they say here in the South "Bless his heart".

Romney who said he would repeal the ACA

It should also be pointed out to her that a good portion of the Republican Party wanted to shut the government down unless the ACA is repealed

It is one thing not to like the President, but to vote for people whose, policies could actually hurt you makes no sense

It's guaranteed that she will find some rationalization to counter the idea that she is getting welfare and to support the idea that anyone else who gets any assistance from government doesn't deserve it.

the only ones entitled to help, not those "other lazy people who didn't earn it."

One of my high school facebook acquaintances just posted some crap like that yesterday. I would unfriend her, but I want to respond every time she and her buddies post some of that crud.

12. conservatives are for "me", liberals are for "the community"

the ONLY way to get conservatives to do anything is to make it personal.

Like Obama and Gov Beshear and other Dems have said, you don't have to like them because its not about them. It's about you and your family, and it costs nothing to check out the options available and decide for yourself.
