![]() Traditionally, women's medical insurance was more expensive because women's lifetime healthcare costs are 30% more. |

7. Actually the government requires a discount as "social engineering" to discourage smoking.
Perhaps you think we should discourage vaginas?

15. sorry but that is just plain bull crap
The law does permit insurers to charge the different rates but by no means requires them to.

16. You are correct, the ACA allows the surcharge, it doesn't require it.
The point remains the same. The surcharge is there to discourage smoking.

17. No it is there because smokers cost more
to insure. I assume they aren't trying to discourage people from growing old, and they are allowing age to be used as a factor in rates. It also is very easy to verify smoking unlike some other risk factors.

22. actually studies show smokers cost less. they die off quicker and use less of the resources,
effectively costing less. but we like to hold to the old myth cause surely they should be penalized for saving everyone money....

23. certainly life insurance has an issue that is valid
if they die sooner. I also think that the end of life costs in many cases still add up. My mom's were fairly high.

24. it doesnt. there was a study a year or two about it and became a roar, and died. cause really, why
would anyone want to embrace the concept that the smoker does not cost more, but less, when we all have an agenda.

5. No. That only works for car and life insurance.
Personally, I think that it was prudent to remove gender as a rating criteria, but it has the effect of raising mens insurance 15% and lowering women's 15%.

13. Everyone who walks this earth, pretty much, was involved with a vagina at some point in time.
They either were created with one at the ready or they transited through one during their birth.
Yeah, there's the odd test tube babies and caesarean births, but for the most part, if it ain't here, we ain't here. I don't see a slew of angry women complaining about prostate cancer screenings, either. So there's that... Healthy babies grow into healthy adults who contribute to social security...but lets not look that far down the road, much more fun to be shortsighted and complain that someone is "getting over" on the system! ![]() |

blasting out misinformation, negative spin, etc. across the gamut just like that little shit bag DeMint said they would.

21. Not that tricky - when they start every other OP with
the same meme it's coming from somewhere and it's quite obvious. And yes I believe it's coming straight from DeMint.
