(13,685 posts)You were all for the spying and the Libertarians were against it.
Now even Feinstein, the spying heroine, has become a Libertarian and you have the gall to question people standing up for liberty?
Twisted up like a Pretzel, aren't you?
Pretzel_Warrior
(8,361 posts)Hoovering up vast amounts of our communications just because they can?
And what is your point? Libertarians don't want the EPA, Department of Education or food inspectors but at least with Libertarians we wouldn't have government spying? You'd also have unlimited corporate spying on you and sale of that information to anyone.
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)really?

(8,361 posts)I've committed no crimes. I have no reason to think I should be under investigation. So the government shouldn't be hauling in my data along with millions of other Americans' "just in case".
Did I direct people to information I was reading about meta data and think that is not the same thing as spying? Yes I did. As did others. But when it becomes apparent that a lot more than that is going on, I think a lot of Americans flipped from passive disinterest to "WTF?!" as per the polling data.

(109,381 posts)as all progressives do -- and someone who believes in libertarianism, which at its heart is an anti-progessive economic policy.
Feinstein will never be a Libertarian no matter what she says in support of civil liberties.

(8,361 posts)And I bet he is playing it cool and letting these revelations eat the monster rather than try to take on the giant political power and entrenched thinking of NSA/CIA/FBI from just the executive. We shall see.

(29,047 posts)but I haven't seen the pro Libertarian Party threads. I am not saying they're not here, I am just saying I have not seen them.
I like social/civil libertarianism, but I am strongly against the Libertarian Party. That said, I have no problems with Democrats working with the Libertarians on issues I agree with, such as ending the war on drugs, but that doesn't mean I will ever vote for the Libertarian Party.
SunSeeker
(53,117 posts)Believing in civil liberties does not make you a Libertarian, any more than being liberal makes you a Libertarian. Dems believe in civil liberties, like choice, marriage equality, etc. Rand Paul does not believe in either.

(53,117 posts)Particularly the trolls who come here to flog Obama, but were nowhere to be heard when Bush set up the programs they are now railing against.
Libertarians are against the NSA because they think government should have no power. Of course, neutering government allows the the rich to abuse working people and the environment, unfettered by regulators and without recourse by their victims. Yeah, they don't want the government storing your meta data. But they are fine with you being a corporation's serf.

(27,310 posts)our intelligence. And disgusting that long time DUers are being accused of being libertarians.
I find the hysteria far out of proportion to the influence that libertarian ideology has on this board.
joshcryer
(62,326 posts)It's not that the Libertarian Party has "influence" so much that their ideas are legitimized, to me. They are illegitimate, vile, utterly despicable capitalists... if we followed their corrupt ideology we'd look like Somalia.

(8,361 posts)That it is bizarre that the community is ok with open discussion around "why are you afraid of Libertarians" and an attempts to say Democrats are working with Libertarians in Congress so why can't we champion Libertarians on DU.
I find it against the goals of DU and Democrats but that's just me.

(53,061 posts)If you are not complaining about a trend at DU what would you classify it as?
If you think that this post is OK then you can't raise an objection to one that comments on a Meta thread that you disagree with.
I actually agree with the content of your OP but not the methodology.
If you have a problem with a particular thread then make it in the thread but let's not open the door to wide open Meta discussions that consist chiefly of whining about other DUers.
You could contribute to that by locking the thread.
