(42,770 posts)again about Yankee stadium. When you went there you could just breathe in the history of the place - maybe it's the years upon years of spilt beer. I am so happy I made it to the last game of the world's series with Yanks playing Atlanta. It was one of the coolest things I ever did. The second they won, everyone behind us sparked up

(31,141 posts)how he got tickets I'll never know. But my grandparents lived 4 blocks from the stadium. If we didn't have tickets, we watched from the "EL". Great memories

(42,770 posts)that. I heard someone say "Great idea. A bunch of rich people decide to knock down irreplaceable history to build a new place that only rich people can afford to go to."
Never heard any protests about it. I would have definitely added my HELL NO

(24,324 posts)Spent many, many afternoons at Yankee Stadium. A bus across the bridge, then 2 subways to the Grand Concourse. And after the game we could walk across the outfield and out through the bull pens !
Mantle, Berra, Rizzuto, even saw Joltin' Joe at the end. And I BELIEVE I was there at least once in Mantle's first year when he played right and Joe played center.

(28,075 posts)it would be a crime to do away with the park. There was move to build a new ballpark 11 or 12 years ago but the fans fought it off and our guide did tell us that, as long as it can remain structurally sound, Fenway is safe.
The first time I walked into Target Field I was nearly speechless (except to babble like the dad in "Christmas Story" - "It's indescribedly beautiful!" - but that was after going to ballgames in a dome for 20 years. I had nearly the same reaction walking into Fenway. Maybe it was seeing the Green Monster in person (and enjoying the view from on top of it) - or maybe it was the history that permeates the ballpark.

(56,582 posts)I really like that the newer stadiums are going retro like that.
I do wish the Nats had stayed in RFK, though: that's a great stadium.

(40,416 posts)Who here is about to throw Billy Martin out of the game.
You could almost hear his strike calls all over the stadium. And if you struck out, you'd get the double pumper from him. He was a great umpire.

(24,324 posts)Joyce will forever be a favorite of mine for the meeting at home plate the game after he missed a call at first and cost Galarraga a perfect game. When Galarraga brought out the lineup card and Joyce was in tears.
