Poll: Americans don’t like Obama or the GOP

President Obama gets the lowest personal and job approval ratings of his presidency, and the Republican Party receives the lowest approval figures in its history, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

“Personally and politically, the public’s assessment is two thumbs down,” said Democratic pollster Peter Hart, who took the survey with Republican counterpart Bill McInturf.

Just 42 percent of those surveyed approve of the job being done by the 44th president, and Obama’s usually-higher personal approval rating is down to 41 percent. Fifty-one percent disapprove of his job performance, and 45 percent now say they have a negative personal opinion.

But Obama’s ratings are sky-high compared to the not-so-loyal opposition in Washington, D.C.
Only 22 percent of Americans see the Republican Party in a positive light, while 53 percent take a negative view of the GOP. Fifty-three percent view the Republicans more negatively than during the federal government shutdown.
