republican compassion: Millions on food stamps facing benefits cuts

(MoneyWatch) It is late October, so Adrianne Flowers is out of money to buy food for her family. That is no surprise. Feeding five kids is expensive, and the roughly $600 in food stamps she gets from the federal government never lasts the whole month. "I'm barely making it," said the 31-year-old Washington, D.C., native and single mother.

Starting Friday, the money is likely to run out even quicker.

That is when Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits are set to fall for more than 47 million lower-income people -- 1 in 7 Americans -- most of whom live in households with children, seniors or people with disabilities. Barring congressional intervention, the maximum payment for a family of four will shrink from $668 a month to $632, or $432 over the course of a year.

That amounts to 21 meals per month, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The cuts will leave participants in the program, better known as food stamps, with an average of $1.40 to spend on each meal. The amount people get could sink even more if Congress makes deeper cuts later this year when House and Senate lawmakers try to hammer out a farm bill.

"...deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life, calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;"

People will go hungry, some will possibly die from malnutrition...the poor will suffer the most!

So convince me this isn't a form of genocide!!!

5. Republican War on Food Stamps: One Giant Lie

The Republican war on food stamps is based on one giant lie.

Last month, Republicans in the House approved a bill that would cut a staggering $39 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, otherwise known as food stamps, over
the next decade.

President Obama has said that he will veto that House bill should it reach his desk, but the damage is still going to be done.

That's because this Friday, November 1, the SNAP program will be slashed by $5 billion anyway, thanks to the expiration of the 2009 Recovery Act that increased funding to that program.

I can ONLY hope folks wake up to these "democrats" before casting a vote.

Research the history of Third Way/New Dem Coalition. These "people" are GOP Lite-Fiscally Conservative and supported by the likes of morgan stanly etc.

I wish I could find where they've recommended Cutting Ag/Sugar/Big Oil Subsidies for the wealthy freeloaders, where they've been proactive in doing more than "talking" about a Robin Hood Tax, or Closing Tax Loopholes, or Reinstating Glass-Steagall or, or or--but no, nothing so far. They only adopt and promote RW GOP Solutions of CUTTING services to the most vulnerable.
I don't reject the Dem Party--I reject what a select and powerful Few are doing To it.
