Do-Gooder Replaces Woman's Stolen Bike — But There's a Catch

http://shine.yahoo.com/healthy-living/do-gooder-replaces-woman-s-stolen-bike-%E2%80%94-but-there-s-a-catch-190046423.html

When someone stole 19-year-old Olgi Freyre’s beloved bicycle, she didn’t just get upset, she publicly posted an angry note to the thief, hoping he would see it. Luckily, a Good Samaritan read it — and bought her a new bike.

-snip

That day, a passerby snapped a photo of the note and tweeted it. By the time Freyre woke up on Tuesday morning, she had dozens of phone calls from local news reporters, inquiring about her bike. A news story aired that night and caught the attention of Chicago resident Robert Curry, 59, a senior vice president at Morgan Stanley.

-snip

snip-

Curry emailed the news station, hoping someone could connect the two of them, and then called Freyre and asked if she could meet him at Kozy's Cyclery, a local bike shop, and to bring along a friend

-snip

Curry wants nothing in return for his gesture, but there’s one caveat: “I told Olgi that she could have the bike on the condition that before her 59th birthday, she must buy a bike for someone in her shoes,” he says. “She has 40 years to fulfill that promise.”

Her title? Executive Vice President. What did that get her? No perks, just the title and $45K a year.
Sometimes good deeds are just that. Good deeds.

Good grief. I know somebody who works at Morgan Stanley and she does not eat babies.

believe that he did it because he's a good guy. See my post up above.

The world needs less cranky, judgmental people and more people like this man. We also need to stop hating people for their success when they try to do something good. It says more about us...than them.

And, on edit, have a nice weekend and try to get some rest.

Thank you.

other in the spirit of generosity.

I don't see any point made at all, except for perhaps people shouldn't be allowed to succeed in business.

Again, my mother "Executive Vice President" Huntington Banks. Pretty title isn't it? $45K a year with no perks. Titles are a dime a dozen.

This guy rocks. I hope we see more stories like this because they are truly inspiring. He changed that girl's whole outlook and gave her her self worth back. Awesome dude.

He rocks. More than the majority of us here, typing away do. He's actually affecting change. Bringing good to people's lives. Because he could afford it, he made a horrible moment in a young woman's life a moment she'll remember for the rest of it. I spend too much time typing, and not enough helping out in my community. I believe this man's amazing actions have inspired me.

He's just a guy. Doing a good thing. Sometimes good deeds are good deeds. I hope someone does something nice for you someday. Or, that we can all emulate this man's action and get out there (whether it's based on a story that's already in the news or just getting up off of our duffs and getting out there) and do good regardless of our station in life. People like this amaze me.

You wouldn't recognize him. He's super tall. Driving me a little bit crazy with teenage socializing and everything, but he's a good kid. That weekend in NOLA was so much fun and a memory I will always treasure. How are your kids doing? My neighbor (born and raised in New Orleans) just rescued a black lab named Voodoo, and it made me think of your little ones.

about as effective as a barn door hex. I think the max time it takes to crack the most serious lock is on the order of 30s or less.

Lock your bike anyway, it prevents opportunity theft, but the days when a good kryptonite lock actually protected your bike are long gone.
