How Long Does It Take To Open An Airport After A Shooting?

One man was neutralized almost 7 hours ago, yet the whole transportation system at LAX is still on lockdown.

The incident happened at Terminal 3, yet all 8 terminals are still not functioning, and all inbound traffic to the entire airport is still halted.

People are walking from the terminals, because they are not being allowed to their vehicles, and the entire LAX air traffic and ground traffic is at a complete halt.

I understand the need for caution. I understand the need for analyzing the crime scene itself. But isn't it a little nutso that an entire airport is paralyzed for an incident which is pretty much 100% guaranteed to be over, and which was localized at 1 of 8 terminals at the airport.

Everything is not a great big conspiracy. Everything doesn't have to be analyzed to death to determine what happened here. Take some time, but get things back on track, and quit inconveniencing tens of thousands of travelers for an indefinite amount of time, just for the sake of proving that you are being thorough.

Just part of the paranoia that grips our country after one of these incidents.

I happen to think the police should take their time with this investigation because I want to see a SUCCESSFUL prosecution of this guy.

This isn't about showboating to prove anything. This is about doing a job right the first time, because there isn't going to be any do-over.

If any.

LAX was still landing aircraft pretty much continuously. The FAA did initiate a ground stop, which means they halted aircraft going to LAX, but they didn't prevent inbound aircraft from landing.

The rest of the airport is slowly coming back. The problem is this is the 3rd busiest airport in the US and 4th in the world, iirc. It will take time.

Frontier, jet blue and two other airlines (based on three) have cancelled flights for the foreseeable future. The rest are slowly coming back, and spinning up.

and the airport stayed closed for hours. People were shuttled out of there, unable to grab their bags, and weren't allowed back in. People who were supposed to fly in were trapped en route and unable to travel until the following day. http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/01/us/florida-jacksonville-airport-evacuated/

The place is a crime scene, after all--a guy was murdered. It's not paranoia, it's forensics.

And who knew that the Nahn Wun Wun plot wasn't just one plane, until the second one hit, and the third....?

Terminal three is the only thing closed. There is still an active crime scene. Operations started to go back to normal a few hours ago.

I understand the OP was watching, likely national (CNN likely). At 19:00 they were still reporting it was locked down. Three hours after busses and shuttles were running. Private Vehicles are currently at the airport.
