I know this isn't proper GD material, but I want to share it regardless.

Boston is celebrating the World Series win with a Duck Boat parade through the city today.

When the Duck Boats reached the finish line of the Boston Marathon, they stopped. One player got out with the World Series trophy and placed it on the finish line with the "617 Boston Strong" shirt the team has carried with it since the bombing.

Two million people were silent.

I really did!

A couple decades ago, my work team and I were on a "field trip" in Boston, part of which included a duckboat ride. While we were in the water, the drivers let me drive! They really did!!! Nobody else got the honor! I can't remember why I was allowed to, now, and I can't remember why we were even on a duckboat.

The best part, though, was when we passed an expensive store and I said I couldn't afford to shop there. A couple women on the back of the boat started pleading with my boss to "Give MT a raise so she can afford to shop there, too! She deserves a raise!"

The DUKW (colloquially known as Duck) is a six-wheel-drive amphibious truck that was designed by a partnership under military auspices of Sparkman & Stephens and General Motors Corporation (GMC) during World War II for transporting goods and troops over land and water and for use approaching and crossing beaches in amphibious attacks. Designed only to last long enough to meet the demands of combat, mass produced Ducks, a modification of the 2-ton capacity "deuce" trucks used by the U.S. military in World War II, were later used as tourist craft in marine environments.

I have goosebumps and tears in my eyes just from reading about it.

I hope they show it on TV at some point.

It would be really cool for that to happen again next February...

and my greatest disappointment was missing a photo opportunity. I only had two, maybe three seconds to react so the moment came and went. The bus took a turn and for that brief moment I was looking at a clean, clear reflection of myself in the vehicle. Across the street was a building that was mirrored. A fleeting moment that would have made a great shot.

You all have a lot to be proud of.

Also, I think this is one of the greatest teams of all time and would defeat most of the great Yankee teams of the past. They had a great balance of excellent pitching and timely hitting and a great team concept. Ortiz has to be one of the most-feared hitters of all time in clutch situations.

Congratulations !!

Were you?
