Bernie Sanders Blows Away Ted Cruz as 500,000 Sign Social Security Petition in Days

Bernie Sanders Blows Away Ted Cruz as 500,000 Sign Social Security Petition in Days

Bernie Sanders is showing Ted Cruz what real people power looks like as his coalition to protect Social Security and Medicare has gathered nearly 500,000 petition signatures in a matter of days.

There is something incredible happening. The American people are standing up to protect Social Security and Medicare. A Sen. Sanders (I-VT) led coalition is flexing its muscle with a petition drive that has collected almost 500,000 signatures already.

In a statement, Sen. Sanders said, “The success of this petition drive makes it very clear to me that the American people want deficit reduction to be done in a way that is fair and not by cutting programs such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. At a time when the number of people living in poverty in our country is at an all-time high, we must not cut programs which provide basic security to tens of millions of our people who are struggling economically.”

snip//

The left’s grassroots are strong and well organized. The grassroots left has had success in recent years with various protests, boycotts, and petitions. If the media really wanted to know what is going on at the grassroots level in this country, they would ignore Cruz and the tea party and spend their time talking to Sanders and the left.

The reality is that what took Ted Cruz and his allies millions of dollars and months to accomplish, Bernie Sanders and the left have a chance of accomplishing in three more weeks. Nothing would make the point about protecting Social Security and Medicare clearer than blowing Ted Cruz’s defund Obamacare petition out of the water. In order for that to happen, people have to keep sharing and signing the petition. (You can sign a MoveOn version of the petition here.)

This is about making Congress and the president pay attention to your voice. Social Security and Medicare are beloved programs, and you can save them from getting caught up in Washington budget hysteria. Ted Cruz is being blown away by Bernie Sanders and his coalition that is standing up to protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

The only problem I have with signing this petition is that it is sponsored by 10 organizations who promise to send me updates. (It's in the fine print, with no box to check saying "Please don't.&quot I've recently unsubscribed to over 50 groups who kept flooding my inbox, so I'll be on the alert for these to nip in the bud.

can't do that.
Socialism, communism. How will those poor people making $250,000/ year ever be able to buy food.. or another boat?
Why should THEY have to pay for you and I- we lazy selfish takers - to have a little security?. We should have "Planned" better.

There is a well-heeled demographic that squealed loudly about that part early on. But I doubt they saw how dangerous getting in bed with the teas is.

Since the teas would have stopped or delayed their SS; reduced their SS to 41% as part of the teas' 'managed catastrophe' or played the debt game until their investments went belly up.

And all taxation is redistribution; the Founders saw it that way; and it was intended as 'class warfare' for the many against the remnants of the implacable rich and the budding class of aristocrats of their day, whom they considered a threat.

Why is their money NOT taxed at the same rate as my money? Why should their extra dollar out of $134,000 not get taxed like all of my $40,000? Why is it when you make so much, your money now becomes extra special? So special that it is taxed much, much less.

Why is rich people's money so much more special than my money? I could use one of my dollars to buy an apple and the rich person's dollar could buy that apple too. But their dollar would probably NOT be taxed as much as my dollar.

Why do RepubliCONS and Teabaggers think a rich man's dollar is worth so much more than anyone else's dollar?

Hey, they have control of this nation and they will not relinquish it without an actual shooting fight.

Tea Party on Right and Liberals on the Left, and the work they do determines what is Center Right or Center Left for each election cycle. Bernie Sanders can do it because "he's harmless" being an Independent Socialist. He's the only Senator listed on the Progressive Caucus. Likely Cruz is being marginalized in the same way. He is a populist token for the Far Right.

But the Center position determines where the final presidential candidates have to plant themselves, with occasional moves, statements, lip service, whatever, to their individual voters...Populists.

A candidate without a serious national political organization staffed by seasoned and expensive pros, influence, name recognition and funding can't get a billion dollars and 6 million votes. And it's so bitter now, that even those that might run given a chance, are wealthy enough to go 2 years without working and self-finance in the beginning, who would ask their family to submit to the kind of publicity and witch hunt that is now common political practice.

The Populist segment or candidate is what is left of the actual people's voice of the parties, the Town Hall remnant. Both Center candidates are financed by corporations, special interests and PACs.

Just IMO.
