1. Other than self-imposed fasts, I've never gone hungry.

Taking public transportation really opened my eyes to how incredibly fortunate I am.

I remember I had to go without food for a couple days. Actually, now that I think about it, I think it was close to three days.

By the way, it is not as hard as you might think to go without food for a day or two.

The San Francisco farmer markets, with great prices, and CHINATOWN markets, which also had great deals on food prices. I am so glad I can use SAFEWAY now... because Chinatown was always too far to travel to, to buy goods.

I would make due with anything around the house I could find. I would put butter on a tortilla and eat it. I would eat toast. I remember one day we had eggs so we made french toast, but we didn't have any syrup so we put sugar water in a cup, heated it up on the stove and used it for syrup. You become very creative when you don't have a lot of food. Because we usually at least had bread on hand I can't remember ever going all day without eating.
