Police: 'Subway vigilante' Goetz arrested in undercover drug bust

New York (CNN) -- A New York man dubbed the "subway vigilante" after he shot four youths in 1984 was arrested Friday for allegedly selling marijuana to an undercover officer, Sgt. Carlos Nieves told CNN.

Bernhard Goetz, 65, met the female undercover officer at Union Square Park on Friday and agreed to sell her marijuana, according to Nieves.

He then went to his nearby apartment to pick up the drugs, Nieves added.

After an exchange of the marijuana for $30, the undercover officer walked away and field members of the Manhattan south Narcotics Division swooped in to arrest Goetz, police told CNN.

How much has been spent already merely setting up the sting and making the arrest?

And truly, how much marijuana is in question here? At today's prices, what does $30 get you? (Other than a night in jail, thousands in legal fees, and possibly 90 days or more in the hoosegow?)

All said and done, it'll probably be thousands of dollars spent to make this bust happen and see it through to its legal conclusion.

All for a $30 bag? Beyond absurd.

I can remember when it was $10 for a three-finger bag, but that was decades ago. I'm not in the scene these days, but I've heard as much as hundreds per ounce. Now undoubtedly, it's more potent today. But how much high will $30 get you?

excellently tactically executed utilizing well-funded taxpayer resources and removing a dangerous criminal from the streets placing him in taxpayer funded custody and preventing the dangerous sale of a dangerous 30 dollars of dangerous marry-wannna!

Yay, drug war!

I know NYC has really low crime, but a sting for a $30 drug bust of marijuana?

The police should be ashamed of this.
