I tell my British cousin to enjoy the holiday we're not having.
I think the origins are you're supposed to "box up" your excess gifts and food and give them to the poor.

have something to do with Muhammed Ali.
Our son was born on Boxing Day. We used to say that we would give him the toy for Christmas and the batteries for it for his birthday. Actually we would have a huge party on the 26th of June, his half birthday.
