Police dig for motive in airport shooting.

Men’s Paths Cross in Deadly Instant at Airport.

One was a troubled 23-year-old carrying an assault rifle, who witnesses said seemed to be hunting for airport security officials. The other was a 39-year-old father of two who for three years had been a screener of the torrent of passengers who move through the security lines at Los Angeles International Airport.

In a few chaotic minutes on Friday morning, the security agent, Gerardo I. Hernandez, lay dead, and Paul A. Ciancia, identified by the police as the gunman, was critically injured, shot in the head by officers. All around, the everyday drudgery of passing through security gates turned into terror, passengers running for their lives and abandoning luggage as heavily armed police ordered them to hit the floor for their own safety.

By Saturday law enforcement officials were still trying to determine a motive, why, according to a senior federal official, Mr. Ciancia was carrying a recently purchased AR 15 rifle and a letter described as a screed against the Transportation Security Administration, accusing it assuming everyone is a terrorist, and a dismissal of “the new world order.” A portrait began to emerge of the suspect and the victim, as investigators combed the airport terminal and an apartment for clues.

Mr. Ciancia, according to friends, had arrived fairly recently in Los Angeles. He grew up in Pennsville, a small town of ranch-style houses in southern New Jersey. His father owned an auto body shop nearby. Mr. Ciancia attended a small Catholic boys school in nearby Wilmington, Del. Several family friends, neighbors and classmates described him as a reserved, quiet boy who along with his younger brother, Taylor, seemed to be scarred by his mother’s long battle with multiple sclerosis and death in 2009.

ENOUGH! Troubled, emotionally fragile, schizophrenic, HOW MANY of the 'recent' U.S. shooters are so described?

As long as ANYONE, ANYWHERE, is permitted to purchase, AND WALK AROUND WITH deadly firearms in this country, WE ARE NOT SAFE!

It upsets right wing corporate fucks. This guy was radicalized and catylized by RW propaganda of FuckdNews, WSJ, Rush, InfoWars, Glenn Beck and others who seek to create suicide attackers much as Osama bin Laden did. It would delegitimize the GOO and their mouthpieces if this was called what it was. Just like with Gabby Giffords shooting. Fascists being allowed a platform to spread paranoia and hate.
