Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsSo . . . a week after 60 Minutes aired that completely bogus Benghazi Bullshit . . .
. . . . they read letters.
In selecting letters to be excerpted for inclusion, an organization such as 60 Minutes needs to do some heavy editing. And so they did.
They selected only praise. They selected only those who said they needed to do more. They selected one that said Hillary Clinton needs to be heard.
Not one ONE FUCKING WORD about the completely discredited source of their bullshit story. Not one word that they heard from people about the story's completely off base premise.
Nope.
So, while Dan Rather's story was right, even as his evidence was impeachable, this story is demonstrably false, and source from a demonstrable liar who is already discredited, they just pat themselves on the back.
Shame on all of you. And shame on Lara Logan for being the central CBS figure is this crap story.

(36,974 posts)Media Matters Founder Calling on 60 Minutes to Retract Report on Benghazi
60 Minutes did a new, in-depth report on the attack at the American consulate in Benghazi last year, and it helped to revitalize the national debate over the attack. CBSs report featured an exclusive with a man who recounted what he witnessed, but Media Matters founder David Brock is calling on 60 Minutes to retract the report for a big error.
The key criticism here surrounds the man identified in the report as Morgan Jones (though his real name was confirmed as Dylan Davies afterwards). He told 60 Minutes he was witness to the attack, and described what he saw around him, but a Washington Post report on Thursday says that does not match his earlier testimony on the matter, just three days after the attack on the compound.
In Daviess 21 / 2-page incident report to Blue Mountain, the Britain-based contractor hired by the State Department to handle perimeter security at the compound, he wrote that he spent most of that night at his Benghazi beach-side villa. Although he attempted to get to the compound, he wrote in the report, we could not get anywhere near .?.?. as roadblocks had been set up.
He learned of Stevenss death, Davies wrote, when a Libyan colleague who had been at the hospital came to the villa to show him a cellphone picture of the ambassadors blackened corpse. Davies wrote that he visited the still-smoking compound the next day to view and photograph the destruction.

The Taliban and al Qaeda, she made clear, want to destroy the West and us, and we must fight fire with fire, She appeared to leave the assembled alternatively riveted and just a bit troubled by a critique with interventionist implications clearly drawn from her reporting.
She wanted us to bomb Libya after Benghazi. That's who CBS put on the story.

(17,595 posts)she seems to have changed. She doesn't appear to be a repug - but she has strong, intense opinions about the war on terror.
I used to admire her. Well, I guess I still admire her courage. But I wish she hadn't gone this righty route.

Just a disgraceful example of how poor the state of American journalism is - not that she is a bad person, but as a journalist, she doesn't deserve a spot on 60 Minutes, IMHO, as she is hardly the 'tough as nails' type of professional journalists inherently need to be.

The Two Poles of Journalism
Michael Hastings and Lara Logan illustrate the difference between afflicting and serving the powerful
BY GLENN GREENWALD
http://www.salon.com/2010/06/28/journalism_9/
<<With his Rolling Stone article on Gen. McChrystal, Michael Hastings has become both the personification of, and spokesperson for, Real Journalism, and as a result, has provoked intense animosity from establishment-serving reporters everywhere. He apparently committed the gravest sin: he exposed and embarrassed rather than flattered and protected a powerful government official, and in our upside-down media culture, doing that is a sign of irresponsibility rather than fulfillment of the basic journalistic function. As Barrett Brown notes in this excellent defense, Hastings in 2008 did to the establishment media what he did to Gen. McChyrstal exposed what they do and how they think by writing the truth after he quit Newsweek (where he was the Baghdad correspondent) and wrote a damning exposé about how the media distorts war coverage. As Brown put it: Hastings ensured that he would never be trusted by the establishment media ever again.
Yesterday, Hastings was interviewed on CNNs Reliable Sources about the criticisms he has received from media figures over his article, and that was followed by a segment with CBS Lara Logan, who lambasted him. I really recommend watching these two segments (video below), as they illustrate the two poles of journalism: those who view their role as exposing the relevant secrets of the powerful (Hastings) and those who view their role as protecting those secrets and serving the interests of those officials (Logan). Amazingly, Logan sounds like the most devoted member of McChyrstals P.R. staff or even his family: so furious is she that Hastings would publish an article that reflected negatively on this Fine, Great Man (whom she supposedly covers) so devoted is she to the interests of this military official that, at one point, she drops the neutral journalist mask and shows her Bill Kristol face, and actually spat: Michael Hastings has never served his country the way McChrystal has. >>

(802 posts)...ironic that Lara Logan has been developing a reputation as a whore and is now featured on the 'venerable' news show - 60 Minutes - that has become nothing but another 'whore' of a news program. Don't know just when it was that '60' turned into this pathetic corporate shill of a show - maybe the time they caved in the suit against 'big tobacco'....the one they made the movie about - but they're dead to me.

(718 posts)Today's TV News has been hijacked by incompetent talking weenies masquerading as journalists. The decline was determined when entertainment was merged with news and the word "Infotainment" was invented. The reason CBS stands out as a journalistic train wreck is because the bar was set so high by Edward R. Murrow and his "boys". The betrayal is industry wide with CBS following in the dirty footprints of NBC and ABC. The truth is available to those who have the time, the ability and the resources to look for it. Most people are either too busy or too lazy to uncover the truth so they believe the BS they are being fed by bird brains and they vote accordingly. That's how we end up with such losers in public office.
