Why Asians Are Deserting The GOP

Asian-Americans have been moving steadily toward the Democrats and away from the GOP. In 2012, Asians supported Obama by a staggering 73-26, compared to 62-35 in 2008. This is a remarkable trajectory for a group that, back in 1992, supported George H.W. Bush over Bill Clinton by a strong 54-30 margin. In every election since then, Asians have increased their support for the Democratic candidate, including elections like 2004 where most other groups, even progressive ones, were going in the opposite direction

Why is this? One reason is the GOP’s dreadful record on immigration, an issue of considerable importance to the Asian-American community. Another is that Asian-Americans are a strongly pro-government constituency. In a massive Pew study of Asians, released last year, Asians endorsed a bigger government providing more services over a smaller government providing fewer services by 55-36. That’s a sharp contrast with the public as a whole, who endorsed smaller over larger government by 52-39.

2. As an Asian-American myself, I agree with these stats. If there is ONE good thing Asians are good at

it's math. And the GOP math just doesn't add up on - and thus to - anything but a bunch of hyperbolic B.S.

5. Speaking of which ... my daughter (she's half Asian, half White) saw GOP racism happening

right before her eyes as she drove with her employer through redder-than-red Arizona yesterday.

There was a checkpoint set up on a busy highway. Now, I'm qualifying that my daughter looks more White than Asian and her boss is blond and blue-eyed. They thought they'd be called to the side, but they weren't. But she did see an Asian family (father, mother, and three young children) being asked to pull over for no reason whatsoever. Not a single Caucasian during that time was asked to do that.

She was appalled, but then she remembered that, although SB 1070 has been rendered unconstitutional and null and void, racial profiling is still clearly happening in that state.

Asians are extremely family-orientated. You harm one, they tell the rest, and this goes on and on and on. The GOP will lose the Asian vote for generations to come.

I don't have the stats in front of me, but I'd bet a much higher percentage of Asians pursue college and post-grad degrees than the general population.

6. It doesn't help the GOP is anti-science & anti-education...

And many Asian Americans have seen upward economic mobility due to the advancements in science and education.

I'd wager there are two major reasons:

1. Recent immigrants who can't tolerate the anti-immigrant tone of the GOP.

2. Affluent Asians who, in the 90s, were established GOPers (pro-business, fiscally conservative, socially liberal) but turned off by the extreme right-wing lurch of the party that has turned on science and social issues as of late.

and to me I don't see how any Asian American in good conscience could support the GOP- a party that probably wants to get rid of every immigrant aka nonwhite from this country
