Rand Paul Caught Scrubbing Transcripts From Website After Plagiarism Charges

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has been accused of plagiarising Wikipedia and other sources and the evidence has started disappearing from his official Senate website.

MSNBC Rachel Maddow recently noticed that Paul had taken the exact language from several Wikipedia pages and used it in several of his speeches without proper attribution. And over the weekend, BuzzFeed’s Andrew Kaczynski found that Paul had copied 1,318 words from a 2003 case study by the Heritage Foundation without making it clear that he had not authored the material.

On Monday, Kaczynski pointed out that some of those speech transcripts had been scrubbed from Paul’s Senate web page.

In the case of a Feb. 6 speech to the Heritage Foundation, Paul’s current page only contains a video, but Google cache shows that the page recently also had the entire transcript.

BuzzFeed found at least three other pages which had transcripts deleted.

eye doctor, either.

Oh, he can CLAIM that he is, alright. Because he is "certified" by the so-called National Board of Ophthalmology. But when you drill down about a millimeter's worth, you discover that the National Board of Ophthalmology is a cardboard cutout he made up, to certify himself. There is, of course, the recognized and official industry standard, the AMERICAN Board of Ophthalmology, but he couldn't be bothered with that one. I suppose it's because he regards himself so highly that no one but himself is worthy of assessing his qualifications? Or another one of these dumb-ass "nobody tells ME what to do..." attitudes on display?

This has been out, already. I even had a thread about it fairly recently - after I stumbled on it, again, fairly recently. I had not known of this back in 2010 - which is when these links originated. I'm just bringing 'em back so that we can keep the FULL picture in mind. It just becomes clearer and clearer.

This last one opens with:
"The eye doctor isn’t properly certified? Dr. Kent Sepkowitz on Paul’s slick end-run around the profession’s licensing rules—and what it tells you about the kind of politician he is." MAN, no kidding!!! Just another sneaky little slicky-boy just trying to game the system if you ask me. And it is VERY telling about his character, and quite an accurate measure of the "man" here.

Knowing how he demonstrably likes to play fast and loose, is it any wonder he's been plagiarizing everything but a toilet paper package wrapper, and has now back and tried to get rid of the evidence after the truth got out?

Hey voters, WHAT DOES THIS TELL YOU ABOUT THIS SLICK LITTLE WEASEL?

Hey, Kentucky, would you trust YOUR precious irreplaceable eyes to this man? How fast-and-loose would he play with you? How many corners would he cut with YOUR eyes? Since we have that well-established, how do you think that'd play out in other ways he "does business"? Why would you trust your government to this man? And now the plagiarism scandal. Wonder what else he's been up to that's not on the up-n-up? Would you be okay with Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton doing this? Would THAT be okay with you too, since obviously this stuff doesn't seem to bother you?

I swear, this guy just stinks worse and worse by the day. And frankly, so do most of the voters of Kentucky if this is what they saw fit to send to Washington. They should be ashamed of themselves!

Actually, I know this doesn't surprise any of us here. But we're dealing with a "doctor" (ophthalmologists are physicians) who started his own certification board so he can make the claim of "Board Certified". Now, since he accepted Medicare as payment, I have a difficult time believing the "Big Government out of my life" claim, among other things. Chances are he couldn't pass muster for the REAL Board. Hypocrite, thy name is "Tea Party Candidate", but then again, their heroine, Ayn Rand, was one of the biggest ones going.

with anyone besmirching his good name.

Which really didn't help with the appearance of flakiness or inability to take responsibility for his actions.

With the Tea Party that is probably a badge of honor but it can't go over well for the rest of the nation.

15. Rand Paul is now throwing his staff under the bus

It took a while but Rand Paul is finally making the move that most pundits have been expecting. Rand Paul is now blaming his staff for these issues http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/rand-paul-blames-plagiarism-on-staff-implements-new-citation-policy

Sen. Rand Paul's office on Tuesday admitted in a statement that some of the Kentucky senator's speeches were poorly sourced and not properly vetted, after several news reports accused him of plagiarism.

Doug Stafford, Paul's senior advisor, said that the senator always uses his own ideas, but relies on staff to provide support.

"Sen. Paul also relies on a large number of staff and advisers to provide supporting facts and anecdotes – some of which were not clearly sourced or vetted properly," Stafford said in the statement.

It is clear that Paul did not write these speeches and so it was only a matter of time before Rand Paul used his staff as scapegoats.

18. A Baylor Journalism Professor has some choice comments for Rand Paul

Rand Paul attended Baylor for three years but never earned a degree. Rand Paul was accepted into Duke Medical School and so Paul never graduated from Baylor.

A Baylor journalism professor has some choice comments about Paul's lack of ethics. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/journalism-professor-would-flunk-rand-paul-for-an-unambiguous-case-of-plagiarism

But on Wednesday, Paul lashed out at his critics once more.

"I'm being criticized for not having proper attribution, and yet they are able to write stuff that if I were their journalism teacher in college, I would fail them," Paul told National Review's Robert Costa.

Darden was not moved by that assessment.

"It appears that the Senator from Kentucky is choosing to attack the messenger rather than specifically address what appears to be an unambiguous case of plagiarism," he said in an email. "Had one of my Journalism students made the same mistakes, I would fail them for each individual assignment and refer the case to the appropriate university office that deals with honor code violations."
