Democrats organized GOTV in the repug runoff for AL Congressional District 1.
The runoff was 'open'.
Anyone registered could vote.
We went for Bradley Byrne (R-Lesser of Two Evils Not Quite As Wing Nut) who was running against
Dean Young (TP-Whacko-Scary ).
Byrne was actually a Dem until in 1997 he twigged to the fact that you couldn't get elected to even dog catcher with the 'D' after your name in southwest/coastal Alabama.
The two most populous counties (Mobile and Baldwin) went pretty solidly for Byrne.
A couple of the more redneck (yes, there's 'more', and 'less' down here) went for Young.
Byrne won by 5% of the vote.
whew
Just how bad was Young?
In the last week or so he said: (paraphrase) Obama was born in Kenya.
There are no 'native born' gay people in Alabama.
The ones who are here are all immigrants from California or someplace like that.
Byrne will go up against Dem Burton LaFlore, a black man who has zero chance of winning the general election.
Not just because he's black, although that will account for some of it.
Mainly because he's a Democrat.

(144,939 posts)I am glad that this teabagger was defeated. He was truly a danger.
BTW, Juanita Jean had some good comments about this teabagger http://www.juanitajean.com/2013/11/05/you-know-because-gay-is-not-genetic-but-buckbutt-ignorant-is/

(54,256 posts)He also had to Out-Hate-Obama, but that's all they do down here.
At least he didn't Out-Anti-Gay THE WING NUT.
I'll give credit where credit is due.
