I used to have a "kiwi" (New Zealand) friend who explained to me about the enmity between New Zealand and Australia, which goes back to the British occupation of both islands; originally Australia was a penal colony and New Zealand was a Govern-ship colony. As he explained, nothing in New Zealand is poisonous - everything in Australia is.

His first trip from New Zealand to Australia, the Australian Customs officer was checking his passport and asked him "do you have a criminal record?"

"Do you still need one?"

He said he didn't understand why they strip-searched him after that..... I think he knew.
