Nearly a week after Election Day, the number of votes separating Virginia's two candidates for attorney general has widened -- slightly -- up from Monday morning's razor-thin margin of just 17 votes.
As a new week dawned with no clear winner, Republican Mark Obenshain was leading Democratic challenger Mark Herring by that handful of votes. But the number changed as Virginia's electoral boards continued to accept provisional ballots from Election Day.
By mid-afternoon Monday, Herring had pulled ahead by 118 votes.
The Fairfax County Electoral Board has accepted 172 of 493 provisional ballots so far, reported Northern Virginia Bureau Chief Julie Carey.
"The Board has not yet rejected any provisional ballots at this time. The staff has prioritized the list of provisional ballots to allow the Board to accept those ballots where it was clear that the voter was qualified to vote in the precinct in which they cast a provisional ballot," the board said in a press release.

I'd call that a a breath of fresh air.
