2014 is a hell of a lot more important that 2016

We need to hold the Senate. We need to take back the House or at least increase the number of dem reps.

I'm far more concerned about the 2014 elections than I am about the Presidential election of 2016.

There are more than a few vulnerable democrats and the thought of republicans having control of both houses is not a reassuring one.

Republicans need to gain six seats to take over the Senate.

These dems are vulnerable:

Mark Pryor- Arkansas

Kay Hagan- NC

Mary Landrieu- Lousiana Landrieu is always considered vulnerable and manages to win. This year, I think, she has a real battle on her hands

In Montana, Baucus is retiring and that seat will likely go R

In SD, Tim Johnson is retiring. That seat will go R

In WV Rockefeller is retiring and that seat will also likely go to the repubs

So really, repubs only need to fight for three Senate seats to take over the Senate. That's a scary thought

Dems need to gain 17 seats to take control of the House- and that's a tall order.

and there's at least 2 opportunities in CA to turn from R to D -- possibly 3 after what McCarthy pulled last weak. 'Course it would help if the flippin' Democrats would actually run candidates in EVERY single race. I know what the arguments are, but Dean did and when Dean did it we picked up seats so there's a historical reference there. Personally, I'm all signed up to work CA-21.

2. While 17 might be a tall order, it is totally doable. As the 2013 elections showed us,

the Country is ready to reject tea party extremism. The repubs have learned that lesson and will keep moving right and even primary their safe seats with extremist candidates. That gives us the opportunity to win.

4. If the repubs gain the senate, Obama will be impeached

Count on it. They have already said that they see the Senate as the real prize, and the only obstacle in their plans to eliminate Obamacare and anything Obama related. I suspect they will nuke the filibuster if they need to in order to get Obama.

6. Democrats would hold on to a 2-seat advantage in the Senate if elections were today

according to Larry Sabato. Given the talk about Republicans likely taking over the Senate, this is good news. We are still ahead and it's very early. We can run ads simply stating the anti-people measures Republicans have supported this year: http://www.centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/content/images//2013-10-23%20Senate%20Map%20(500).png

7. Conviction on impeachment requires a 2/3rds majority

The Republicans aren't going to get anywhere near that.

In addition, impeaching Obama makes Biden president, giving him a large leg-up in 2016...and 2020 - finishing Obama's term would be short enough that he could run again.
