They Have Treatment for That

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the clearly syphilitic Richard Cohen:

Today’s GOP is not racist, as Harry Belafonte alleged about the tea party, but it is deeply troubled — about the expansion of government, about immigration, about secularism, about the mainstreaming of what used to be the avant-garde. People with conventional views must repress a gag reflex when considering the mayor-elect of New York — a white man married to a black woman and with two biracial children. (Should I mention that Bill de Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray, used to be a lesbian?) This family represents the cultural changes that have enveloped parts — but not all — of America. To cultural conservatives, this doesn’t look like their country at all.

This bit of cultural wisdom was offered, mind you, as part of an explanation for why New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will have difficulty attracting the support of Iowan conservatives should he seek to compete in their presidential nominating caucuses. It's not immediately obvious why Chris Christie will be punished for the New York mayor's miscegenation, nor is it clear why Iowa was singled-out as the home of the neo-Dixiecrats. But this is what happens during the Tertiary Stage of syphilis. People stop making sense, and they may even begin blurting out racially insensitive remarks that have no logical or temporal connection to anything.

I recommend that Cohen pursue a prolonged treatment of intravenous penicillin, followed by a comfortable retirement. Watching the cap on his career is more painful than prolonged exposure to Charlie Sheen.

The Washington Post's habit of providing lifetime sinecures assures that even once-decent columnists will eventually sully their names and destroy the paper's reputation, because public dementia and writing opinion columns are two things that do not go together.

And Richard Cohen has not been a decent columnist for at least thirty years. Somewhere, there is a pasture calling his name.

They thought it "brilliant" and "insightful". I think these words do not mean what they think they mean.

Cohen needs to go...of course, being the new shittier WaPo, they'll replace him with one cast-off or another from the Examiner and consider it a coup that they stole "an insightful opinion writer" from the WaTimes stable.

4. Somehow, these fuckers can manage to put these two phrases close

together without their own heads exploding:

"Today’s GOP is not racist"..."People with conventional views must repress a gag reflex when considering the mayor-elect of New York — a white man married to a black woman and with two biracial children."

This seems far more offensive in a way than the asshole proudly wearing his "yes, I'm a racist" t-shirt.

It blinds them to the inherent contradiction of those two thoughts.

“Anyone reading Richard’s entire column will see he is just saying that some Americans still have a hard time dealing with interracial marriage," Hiatt said. "I erred in not editing that one sentence more carefully to make sure it could not be misinterpreted."

So he is "just saying" that some Americans are still racists. And somehow the editor thinks a slightly more obtuse way of saying that is all the editing that is needed? I mean, what the fuck is there to "misinterpret"? Cohen admits he is racists, editor says he should have edited to show some Americans are still racist. WTF

Today’s GOP.... is deeply troubled...

...about the expansion of government...

Duh, not concerned when the money from expanded government goes into their pockets from farm and corporate subsidies. Sure you're concerned.

Riiiight...

...about immigration...

So please just move your arrogant asses back to Europe, which also does not want you.

Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

...about secularism...

Why, you can't pick the religion you want to replace it and still have a Constitution. Are you saying Ayn Rand isn't good enough for you anymore?

Boofuckinghoo!!!

...about the mainstreaming of what used to be the avant-garde...

Yeah, like you worried about slavery, genocide, torture, or domestic terrorism for centuries...

Sorry, but we (I and the mouse in my pocket) have nothing but disdain for your concerns.

Stuff it!

Signed,

THE AMERICAN PUBLIC

But thanks you for the heads up!

Sincerely - this is the funniest stupidity I've read or heard from a Con in a very long time! I'm stuck on Deblasio's interracial marriage being the breaking point.

He needs to admit its the black man whose mother was an American of Irish descent that was the breaking point.

And with that - I'm throwing the mic now!

Dear Mr. Cohen:
. . . a white man married to a black woman and with two biracial children. (Should I mention that Bill de Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray, used to be a lesbian?) This family represents the cultural changes that have enveloped parts — but not all — of America. To cultural conservatives, this doesn’t look like their country at all.

Did you REALLY write that? THIS family was the breaking point?

Dare I say - it was actually the PRODUCT of a black man and white woman's marriage that was actually THE breaking point? Ohhhhh like I dunno - FIVE years ago?

He has totally broken from reality and I'm sorry if it offends but he needs to go back on his meds! As we say in some parts of "Joisey" - oh laaaaws noooooo!

Oh and I love The Booman Tribune quality, extent, and depth of snark here!

Thanks babylon sister. I read your posts and articles referenced long before I joined DU - you were one of the people that made me join DU - just so I could thank you and give you kudos. You have totally made my Wednesday by posting this!

On this stupidity and making fun of the god damned fool? I'm in it for longevity and distance. He had me at quoting Harry Belafonte. Belafonte is a god damned hero for getting you to show your ass Mr. Cohen. You showed your ass now go wipe it you ass wipe!

remember in the 80s when he decided jewelry store owners should deny admittance to black males (because of course they were only there to steal). This guy keeps doing this because he keeps getting away with it.
