OP NOTE: While I normally wouldn't post tripe from Morris & McGann, I heard him spouting this crap yesterday on the radio. I think it is important to understand, in this case, what they are pushing for. Sorry if the post offends anyone. If Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants to seal President Obama's fate, all he has to do is to attack Iran. It is clear from Obama's AIPAC speech that the president will continue to talk about diplomacy and sanctions for the remainder of his term and will take no military action against Iran. If Israel attacks Iran, she will achieve three things:
a. Israel will buy time by delaying the Iranian nuclear program by one to three years.
b. Those extra years will give the effective sanctions, only now being imposed, time to work.
c. The resulting increase in the price of oil - and its impact on the American economy - will doom Obama's re-election chances, assuring that a pro-Israeli Republican Administration takes power.

(1,253 posts)Netanyahu better get Russia's & comrade Putin's assent to go piss all over their back alley -- before he gets his rocks off on this epic raid of his, which he's been spoiling for all his adult life as a political sociopath.
not to mention China's okay, to screw up their new 10-year plan for commercial dominance of the Universe; i won't say 'planet', 'cos they've been there, done that, already.
while Israel may be genuinely antsy about what the religious whackos in the Iranian theocracy might do -- with a couple of nukes under their robes -- no one with an iota of common sense, imagines that this whole adventure in the rhetorical works right now, is anything but an oil caper for Europe & the USA.
and the Iranians by & large, are not stupid dumasses like the mass of rightard loons amongst the US population. they have enough sense to know that they'll be blown to dusty death, if they so much as spit inside the Israeli border; as Francois Mitterand (the guy who authorized the destruction of "Rainbow Warrior" stated in no uncertain terms, in public.

(590 posts)and I hope that Netanyahu is not that nuts.. Cause if Isreal attacks Iran.. Sheesh Iran will attack back.. Not with nukes but with conventional weapons.. ya know missiles and stuff.. Iran is over 4 times as large as Iraq and like 80% mountains.. This is just what the mullas dream of happening... There is NO way to win a war against Iran.. Dick is just pissed cause he knows as things stand now Obama will win in a near landslide.. and only something like this MIGHT change that.. The ONLY valid reason to attack Iran is if they actually USE nukes.. which would be sucide for them.. Most of their belcose against Isreal for is for own internal politcal uses..

I really don't have a good feeling on this...not at all.

(490 posts)Redefining the relationship. Imagine they attack and he addresses the nation by saying that despite its close ties with Israel, he WILL NOT send US troops into a new full-scale war without full justification, that he WILL NOT repeat the Republican folly of a war built on lies and SMS city built on body bags. That he would help Israel if they needed help, and that opening Pandora's Box of their own accord doesn't count. That it's a job for Israeli boys, not Americans.
Imagine how that would play.
Could he do that safely, even if he wanted to? I don't know. The GOP have surely rehearsed a response for months and months and I fear that it might really bring out the crazies, too.
I just hope he doesn't get drawn into a drastically premature conflict at the behest of a foreign administration.
Israel deserves to exist peacefully, but there comes a point that it needs to go it alone if it's methods aren't those preferred by the rest of the western world
