My feelings about Sen. Inhofe's son's untimely passing:

As Jews, we have a custom, at Passover, of diminishing our cups of wine, drop by drop, as each of the Ten Plagues is mentioned. This ritual is to demonstrate that we grieve for the losses of even our enemies, that every human life lost is a tragedy.

No matter what animus I may feel about the gentleman's father's policies and attitudes, I feel the pain at the loss of his son.

Regardless of what you think about his Father, and i have said plenty, this man did amazing work. His specialty was hand surgery, from everything I have heard from friends in Tulsa he was a good man.

No man or woman should have to bury their son.

No parent should ever have to face burying a child. It's the most unnatural thing in the world. The Imhofe family has my deepest sympathies.

"We have 20 kids and grandkids. I’m really proud to say that in the recorded history of our family, we’ve never had a divorce or any kind of homosexual relationship."

It is what it is. Imhofe stood on the floor of Congress in front of a photo of his family when he said that. No one in his family took exception to being used in that manner.
Of course I have emathy for those who suffer a loss, even if they take great joy in imposing suffering on my own family.

I can only wish the man could feel those he has caused to suffer. How many parents have lost their children due to lack of access to health care, an inhumane and inhuman "free market" Inhofe callously defends.

It is terrible to lose a loved one.

I also feel for all families worldwide that are and will lose loved ones from the disastrous effects of global warming and RW empire-building, which the Senator is enabling.

And his stubborness and refusal to be a humanist is despicable, IMO. As I said in the OP, this has nothing to do with that aspect of his life and influence.

and you're right. And if you choose not to feel for him for that reeason, that is you perfectly understandable right, AFAIC. I have absolutely no problem with that, myself.

I'm glad to have enough humanity to not feel joy at his pain, or feel that he deserves it, or ever wish it on him. That, I feel, is the difference between me and Senator Inhofe.

and everything else emanates from the lack of their ability to feel empathy or sympathy for anyone or anything which does not affect them 'directly'.
