I didn't get any mail on Tuesday. This was the day after a holiday where there was no mail delivery. Everyday I get lots of mail and the day after a post office holiday - they can't fit it in my box. But I didn't get any mail Tuesday. I was expecting a package from E-Bay - and when I checked tracking on E-Bay - it indicated that I had a "notice left". I did not get a notice.
I checked with my neighbors and none of them received mail either. One called the post office and was told they are short handed and mail carriers are having to pull double routes. Wednesday I finally got mail - but it was delivered by a worn out mail man with a light on his head so he could see in the dark. It came at 9:35PM. He was exhausted and not happy.
Today I went to the local post office - there was a line with no one behind the counter. Finally after about 5 minutes a lady came out as she was trying to answer an inquiry from a customer. This lady had to ultimately handle all of us in line by herself. She looked tired.
Now I live in a near west suburb of Chicago. Never in the 41 years living here have I had problems with mail delivery.
I was wondering if others around the country are experiencing anything like this. I'm wondering if this is intentional - so that we customers start calling our representatives in D.C.
What's up with the Post Office?

(11,862 posts)I went to the site I ordered from and they said, because it was marked as delivered there was nothing they could do..so since I needed.(wanted) what was supposed to be delivered I reordered..and it was DELIVERED THE NEXT DAY!!!!!!!!!!! (not the reorder...the original order)
I am glad it was delivered...but I could have saved myself about 40 bucks had they just listed it as the next day to be delivered.
And another order was bounced around between Detroit and Allen Park for a few days...went from Allen Park to Detroit..BACK to Allen Park for NO REASON????

(2,149 posts)Our mail delivery has been very late, averaging 4 or 5 pm. Not sure what's up, but I'm always happy that the mail comes.

(11,360 posts)I'm also in Cook county, and we're lucky if we get our mail by 5pm. They've not missed any days, but the carriers have much longer routes than they did a few years ago. I haven't noticed any changes in post office staffing, but I rarely go to the post office, so I probably wouldn't.

(43,049 posts)and once did. Now they lose stuff.
I get meds sent from the VA and I can see the shipping dates-- a bunch of stuff was sent on 10/30 and I just got them this week One of them yesterday. Insulin was sent on 10/30, and I still haven't gotten it. Most of the stuff is generic and some is even cheaper at Rite-Aid than my VA copay, so I'm soon going that route, but that insulin costs a bundle. I'll have to see what it costs with Medicare kicking in.
The local PO tries to help, but tells me it's all because everything is now being rerouted to save money.

(3,033 posts)I get a lot of catalogs. A lot. Like every day. Tuesdays are when the local ads are delivered. Not this Tuesday. The ads and catalogs weren't delivered until yesterday.
I love our mailman, he's great, we get exceptional service when he's on our route. But he's been there a long time and takes a lot of vacation days. When we have someone else, we get mail from other zip codes.
I don't know what happened Tuesday, but when I see our regular mailman, I'll ask. He'll know and will tell me. I give him $20 for xmas and a big Double Reese Cup

(32,701 posts)excuse: "Undeliverable as addressed," but earlier that day the package was, "Out for delivery." If the package had an "undeliverable address," why did the mail carrier take it out for delivery? And it's interesting that no other mail appears to have been delivered that day.
Anyhow, it's fine because Amazon took the blame and sent my items Next Day Air.

(14,626 posts)We have been talking about this for the last several months in our home.
I live in the Bay area of California. It seems like it is only delivered 3 to 4 times per week, versus 6 days per week.

(3,508 posts)Saw the poor guy trying to park and looked about beat and ready to go home. Hope we were the end of his route, but maybe not!

(2,467 posts)Recently amd over several visits haven't found a person who could help, one guy there is nice and trys, the othrrs don't care at all. Over the last year 50% of my packagges have been problematic....often lost in the facility (more than once) I am to the point of switching to ups. They don't seen overworked. The nice guy does a good job and it the person who covers for him on his days off that cause the problems.

(666 posts)Twice in the last month my mail carrier has left a "sorry we missed you" notice in my box rather than just knock on my door. In both cases I was home and waiting for the package. When I approached her, she said that her schedule is so tight that sometimes she simply doesn't have the time to do deliveries to the door

(343 posts)Our sort center here closed, so all mail, even those pieces just going across town, goes to Springfield to their sort center. Soon it will go to Champaign, which is all the way across the state. Our local staff has been cut to the point that there are only 16 clerks employed - some of them have had to start walking mail routes. A headlamp is now necessary equipment because some carriers are out on routes until nearly 8pm. If the mail truck from Springfield/Champaign is late, the mail starts out that much later. It is a huge mess, and my sister (26 years with the Postal Service) is hoping to hang on long enough to get her pension. It is her firm belief that this is a deliberate attempt to dismantle the Post Office (and their unions) to privatize.

(7,237 posts)the last few times I had packages delivered, the mailperson left it at the curb under my mailbox instead of bringing it down the driveway and putting it by the front door. It is 50 yards (?) or so... I don't like it because anybody could just make off with it from where they leave it up by the road.
This started within the last 3-4 months.
Lately I have been getting stuff delivered at work instead.
Don't know what time it comes or if that's changed, I am not home during the day most days.
