The investigation is seeking the extension of the arrest of the Greenpeace activists detained for a protest against oil extraction in the Pechora Sea, Tatyana Vasilyeva, the press secretary of Greenpeace Russia, said.

"The Investigative Committee has said it will demand the extension of the arrest of the 30 Greenpeace activists for three months for further investigation. Motions on the matter will be considered at court hearings in St. Petersburg next week," Vasilyeva said.

The Kalininsky District Court of St. Petersburg has received six motions for arrest extensions, and nine others are expected on Monday, she said.

"If the court does not grant the Investigative Committee motions, the activists will be freed," she said.
