I don't listen to morning drive (partly because I'm retired), but a young facebook friend of mine gets all worked up over the right wing bullshit they spew, and she believes every bit of it.
Earlier this week, she posted an audio from the Walton and Johnson show in which they started with a stream of pro-Islam statements by President Obama. My friend posted something about "this is what he's passionate about". Well, 12 seconds of googling found a long list of pro-Islam quotes by Bush, and I posted a link to them, but she brushed those off, and I dropped it because I like her and her husband and I have lost enough friends over politics already.
So today, she posted another one. The same radio show is now playing clips from McCarthy-era films that were shown to schoolchildren. You know the type... "There's a Communist behind every tree". I'm guessing she doesn't know the history of McCarthyism, and she's all worked up over communism, etc. Needless to say, she hates Obama.
I used to listen to that radio show years ago. They were funny guys, but over the years they started bitching about Mexicans and Blacks more and more, and I stopped listening. That was before Obama was president, and I believe they've gone full-bore right wing since then.
Have they shifted their focus from talk radio to shock jocks, or is this a local thing?
Here's the link. The movie clip starts at the 23:30 minute mark.

(18,807 posts)No patience - none at all - for most of the standard morning-show douchebaggery or a lot of the standard bigotry that a lot of morning shows have fun with. They're all over a lot of the equality-based campaigns and organizations in the city, are ruthless in calling out other groups that behave otherwise, and will demolish on the air some idiot or another every couple of weeks who tries to call in to complain that they don't hate women or gays enough.
It's ... very unlike most morning radio, while still having the essential feel of what those guys probably all think they're aiming for with their own lineups. Real breath of fresh air. (The fact that the station overall's right up my alley helps.)

(2,135 posts)Tom Bradley has the morning drive from 6-9, followed by ultra-Libertarian Gary Nolan and his locally syndicated show from 9-12. And I when I saw ultra-Libertarian, I mean ultra...

But he's been gleefully trashing "Obamacare" ...

(3,364 posts)I listen to Preston and Steve as well as Elvis Duran. They don't tend to get too political, but seem to lean more left when they do discuss it. Steve of Preston and Steve is a Republican and Conservative, I believe, but not at all asshole about it.
AM radio on the other hand....Sweet Jesus Mercy. We have 1210AM aka The Big Talker and it is loaded with local RW yahoos like Dom Giardano (probably botched the spelling) and national names such as Rush. They got rid of Rush on this station over a year ago after the Sandra Fluke incident. They just picked him up again a few weeks ago. So sad. They play Michael Smerconish, who is sometimes center, sometimes left, annoyingly sometimes right - he can never figure it out and doesn't fight back against RW crazies on his show. They also play that dreadful Dick Morris. Another local guy is conservative Gary R'Nel, who sometimes says something sensible and doesn't always tow the RW line. For a while, they had a balance of more left leaning programming, but they have really done away with that as of late.

(29,658 posts)97.7 out of Sedalia/Columbia, MO seems really bad in the morning and I tend to tune him out. 94.5 out of KC has its moments.
Mostly I listen to 96.5 The Buzz out of Kansas City. It's an alternative radio station (and in lots of trouble, ratings-wise, to the point they're asking their listeners to "listen longer." . Anyway, the morning show is very liberal and the a.m. deejay is married to the head of the afternoon drive and he's even more liberal than her. They brag about regularly receiving hate calls and hateful texts from RWers.
