A statement from Alec Baldwin

I would like to address the comments I made this past week.

I did not intend to hurt or offend anyone with my choice of words, but clearly I have – and for that I am deeply sorry. Words are important. I understand that, and will choose mine with great care going forward. What I said and did this week, as I was trying to protect my family, was offensive and unacceptable. Behavior like this undermines hard-fought rights that I vigorously support. I understand “Up Late” will be taken off the schedule for tonight and next week.

He's made homophobic remarks in anger more than once. I want to say there were at least 2-3 other high profile instances where he went to that well when lashing out in anger.

Not cool at all. I don't care how much of a progressive he is in other areas.

Programmed. This language gets used around you your whole life and you begin to internalize it. It becomes reflexive and hard to remove. But I still believe that it can be with hard work.

"bitch" as an insult, and I still occasionally catch myself using that word as a verb, as in "to complain."

I'm in my 40's and straight and have never used that word. My parents are in their 60's and hardly liberal firebrands and I've never ever heard them use that word. It's not programming it's homophobia. The fact that whenever he's looking to denigrate, belittle or insult someone he uses gay descriptives and insults means he's a homophobe.

convincing.

And I am certain you are an individual of singular character. That is to your parent's credit and your own.

But everyone walks a different path. Hopefully his is in the right direction. Unprocessed anger damages everyone.

37. But why is his unprocessed anger directed at gays?
Sun Nov 17, 2013, 12:14 PM
Nov 2013

I have plenty of anger. I'm not saint. My issue isn't with him having anger issues. I get that. I get him hating the paparazzi. I just don't get why when he goes off on someone he hates and thinks is scum, he so frequently equates them to gay people. That's a lot more than just anger issues, it's thinking gay people are below him and beneath him and that it's an insult. I'd still be mad if he did it one time, but could maybe chalk it up to a heat of the moment thing. But the fact that it's a consistent go-to for him is what leads me to believe that it's not just unprocessed anger but a fairly deep seated homophobia.

If you'd be so forgiving if you found out someone who was a right winger said this stuff then that's still an issue but at least it's consistent. I just don't agree with forgiving someone bigotry just because they may be right on a lot of other issues.

If Joe Scarborough or David Gregory or Chris Matthews used those words in those ways multiple times I'd want them to lose their jobs too.

16. ALEC BALDWIN TROTS OUT GAY HAIRDRESSER
Fri Nov 15, 2013, 10:31 PM
Nov 2013

Someone needs to take his shovel away.

Alec Baldwin just played the, "I have a gay friend" card ... putting his male hairdresser on the spot in front of reporters to vouch for his non-homophobia.

It's shameless, it's desperate ... and quite frankly, it's sad.

It reeks of "dance monkey, dance" ... with Alec asking him straight up -- "Am I a homophobe?"

The guy replied, "Yes, bigtime" ... but it's clear he's joking.

The format of the show is great.. Quiet calm discussion of an issue with ONE guest.

It's just too bad they did not get someone like Ron Reagan jr, or just about anyone who is NOT Alec Baldwin. They HAD to know of his tendency to go apeshit crazy from time to time. He has always shot his mouth off....and said hateful things.

I lost my taste for him back when he called his twelve year old daughter all those horrid things, and since then he's proven many times that he has rage problems.

It's too bad. He's done some very entertaining stuff. But I tend to avoid him now.

This type of rhetoric is completely and totally unacceptable. Its offensive not only to the public, but I find it contradictory to the staff and the work that MSNBC has worked so hard to build. To me, Mr Baldwin goes in the same category as Ms Paula Deen.

And his show sucks!

Also hate the way he combs his hair straight back, and don't like his commercials. How he gets all this work is beyond me.

People who could use a show on MSNBC: Ron Reagan, Howard Dean, Howard Fineman, Stephanie Miller, Thom Hartman, Mike Malloy, etc, it goes on and on...so why Baldwin? Somebody must owe him money...
