If Alec Baldwin called a photographer a watermelon eating n word

he wouldn't have been suspended for only two weeks. He surely wouldn't have only been suspended for two weeks if on top of that he had a history of using racially charged language. So why does he still have a job after calling a photographer a cock sucking faggot?

As long as it is a true apology and the incident doesn't repeat, I think people should be forgiven. We say things when we are angry. We don't need an informal police state swooping in on every misdemeanor.

For example, I would be vulnerable to being called a whole bunch of things that would also offend others. I would just plain shrug it off. We don't need all this drama and emotional weight. Drop the load. Life is way too short.

and he's of an age where he probably grew up using those words. So I guess people are more inclined to be forgiving. But that may not be a good thing.

is about 20-30 years before the phrase he used stopped being acceptable. It's a matter of - not exactly identification, but more like "I could see my uncle doing that, and I like my uncle so even though that's not acceptable, I guess since he apologized it's ok."

I'm not saying this is the way things should be. Just trying to explain the phenomonon

Sucks, but there you have it. We have even seen the same attitude in play over the years at DU.

has got to suck - at least he hasn't shot anybody dead.

I'm sure it's tempting to want to lash out at these stalkers. Some do, some don't....Mr. Baldwin has always
had an anger issue.

I'm glad MSNBC suspended his show for a couple weeks.

He should have stuck with "you fucking asshole" and left the rest out.

Most stalked famous people have resorted to camera smashing and punching.

The paparazzi are known for yelling out their own obscenities to get a reaction from said famous person to capture an angry face picture which lands on The National Enquirer.

his words are/were despicable.

Here's a scenario for you, hire someone to harass you day in and out, follow your every move, snap pics of you, film you and your family, stand outside your home 24/7 - then tell me how you liked it. Now imagine this is your life everyday.

I'd would most definitely lash out and sometimes when you're frustrated, angry, fearful stupid shit comes out of your mouth.

Since you can't possibly look at his life the possible reasons why he behaves this way, then this game is over.

And they are equally stalked by the paparazzi. In fact, MOST celebrities who lead this life do not lash out in these ways, clearly exposing their secret prejudices.

I can't believe we're on a supposedly liberal message board, and this sort of behavior is tolerated.

Then i would let it slide. I dont think there is a phrase anywhere that someone would not find insulting and i guess its in the eye of the beholder. I have been called stuff that others would say is offensive but really if im not bothered or i dont care then thats it. Plus attitudes like baldwins is dying out and its kinda good to see him looking like an ass and him knowing that people think hes an ass.

racial jokes and insults all the time, yet his show is still on the air and thriving. Even after he mocked the Chinese president with his "ching-chong" rant and how he said "nigga" on the air, I don't think his show got suspended like Baldwin's has.

And if that doesn't happen, it should be roundly boycotted. C'mon, folks who claim to be "liberal" (and that includes YOU, Alec Baldwin): using racial, ethnic, gender, or sexual orientation slurs means you don't practice the crap you supposedly preach. And you're not a liberal. And liberals should not watch this show. Because it's not liberal.

I have no sympathy for this guy. He's a serial offender.

I didn't watch the show anyway, but I will double not watch it now. (big threat, eh?)

He's been told about this behavior a few times and he's kept doing it. If he loses his job, that's just too bad. His mouth gets him into trouble often, but there's never really been any consequences for it. Fuck him; it's about time.
