There is a cancer patient in South Carolina who claims he was paying $180 for insurance but now

has to pay $1,500. He wants to drop his insurance and "let nature take it's course."

I apologize for linking to Fox "News" but this is the interview -

What are you thoughts on this? I'm not bashing the ACA but there has to be more to this story.

"My life is worth $150/month, but not $1500."

"My insurer was happy to charge me $150 a month for my $100,000k/year cancer treatments but they were forced to stop because Obamacare."

"My family can't afford $1500/month because we're poor... but we don't qualify for a subsidy."

You know it's bullshit.

He'd be paying about $50/month if he had done it at healthcare.gov

So Obamacare was not responsible for his new premiums. He would have been cancelled anyway
and then he wouldn't have been eligible for ANY insurance because he had a preexisting condition.
With Obamacare he can get new insurance if he wanted...if he can afford it. I wonder if he checked out thoroughly what he'd get on the exchanges.

This "free speech applies to news media" argument is bullshit. They lie because lies fill their bank accounts in a way that truth will not. It's deception for financial gain or "fraud".

He said himself it was cancelled due to going over his catastrophic limit...not due to some loophole. I don't get it.

Snip:
He later reveals that his old plan cost him about $170, and the one his “insurance guy” offered would cost him $1500 a month, with a $13,500 deductible. However, the most expensive Obamacare plan offered to individuals over 50 on the exchange for South Carolina is $796.87 a month, for the most expensive Gold plan, and Bronze plans in the state start at $255.35 a month. Kelly didn’t ask him, but Mr. Elliott might qualify for federal subsidies as well. For example, if he makes $26,000 a year, that Bronze plan would be $163.42 /mo., less than what he was paying before.

He also said “Now with Obamacare, the man that I’ve got looked into it, they are not going to pay for pharmaceuticals or medical devices.”

But under Obamacare, both of those categories are mandated as essential health benefits.Either Mr. Elliott’s insurance man is giving him a bum steer, or something is being lost in translation. I’ve tried to get in touch with Mr. Elliott, but have thus far been unsuccessful.

the $ 786 a month for the silver or gold insurance premium under the ACA, then he is screwed. Not because of ObamaCare, but because South Carolina's state officials refused to allow for MediCaid expansion to help the poorest of the poor.

Source for this statement:

Note this paragraph:
Many of the states that have refused the Medicaid expansion are the poorest and most Republican, including Texas, Louisiana, Florida, South Carolina, Mississippi and Georgia — all of which have uninsured rates that are among the highest in the country.

If they are over 55, and their former policy was mostly a "catastrophic" insurance policy, he could be telling the truth.

Also although it is now illegal for Big Insurers to not take on a person with a previous condition, that doesn't mean the policy can't be very expensive. ACA did little to set price limits.
