For the second time in a week, a beloved patient of ours has died suddenly

The nicest two men you'd ever want to meet

http://articles.philly.com/2013-11-07/news/43734135_1_street-cafe-piano-jazz

And another fellow who was just the kindest person - a big teddy bear of a guy who just went to bed and didn't awaken.

I'm just so sad. This sucks.

Just posted this to vent...sorry.

The same happened with my husband. He had an end stage disease and we expected him to die down the line, but I always thought there would be hospice care first and he would pass with his family surrounding his bedside.

Instead he came home from a medical treatment he received, dialysis, sat down in his easy chair to watch TV while I made dinner... and died. He couldn't be revived by the EMTs. It was an awful shock because it was sudden and unexpected. However, I finally came to the realization that for him it was a better outcome. He didn't suffer but maybe briefly. I think you should think about it in those terms.

but if I could select my end, it would be not waking up after going to bed or not waking up after an anesthetic.

I saw them only three times - we always said we wanted to attend more but didn't get a round tuit.

That does suck. I hate losing patients. Then again, I would hate to meet the person who likes that. Brrrrr.
