(36,063 posts)Lots of awful feedback loops...
a terrible mix of fear blended with overwhelming sense that semiotics of warrior spirit are what insure yeoman status within a system that gives it privilege...
and an unquestioning faith that aggressive violence is appropriate to the defense of "all that is right" as perceived by that terribly fearful mind.

1.) They themselves are violent assholes, they think brutality, killing and torture are good tactics, hard to overdo when the chips are down. In other words, they think Hobbes was right, and that's "reality". It's dogma.
2.) They themselves are insecure and paranoid, because deep down they know they are no better than anybody else, not so smart and cool as they like to pretend, and they are losing the argument, despite all the money and all the killing. So given #1, the world seems very worrisome, threatening.
3.) They project like mad. They literally do not believe everybody else does not want "global domination" just like they do, and for the same paranoid reasons. If our "enemies" don't admit it outright, they must at least be plotting it vigorously, like we are, in secret.

(31,984 posts)Police departments have become militarized beyond belief. And with no good reason. They do it because they can. They use seized drug money as well as tax money to buy armored vehicles that our troops in WW II would be jealous of.
