Angry Twitter users are firing back at Melissa Bachman after a photo of the huntress posing with a recently killed lion went viral. Bachman, who stars in the hunting show Deadly Passion on the specialty network Pursuit Channel, found herself the target of vicious death wishes and obscenity-laced insults on Monday as critics on Twitter, YouTube and other social networks blasted the Minnesotan for her boastful hunting escapades.
The photo in question, posted to her Facebook page on Nov. 1, shows a smiling Bachman posing with a rifle as a lion carcass lies in the dirt beneath her. An incredible day hunting in South Africa, the caption reads. Stalked inside 60-yards on this beautiful male lion...what a hunt!
The photo, accompanied by similar photos of Bachman posing with slain deer, bears and other wildlife, went relatively unnoticed until last week, when a petition on Change.org launched by Cape Town resident Elan Burman helped bring attention to it. Signed by more than 156,000 people, the petition is calling on the South African government to deny Bachman future entry into the country. The hunt reportedly took place on a legal safari near the town of Musina.
Nevertheless, upon seeing the photo, many incensed Twitter users lost all sense of civility. (Fair warning: the following tweets contain explicit content.)

(57,631 posts)That's rough for them. I suppose like me they assumed a rich person named Bachman must be from that family. My mom used to work for Bachman's and loved the job and how they treated her.

(7,720 posts)then why did you write a post with the implications that this woman was a member of the florist family? That also implies that the woman in the photo did something wrong.
While I am not a big fan of hunting predators, hunting is a huge part of South Afica's economy. The wildlife is managed and not in jeopardy of extinction and the meat is donated to those in need.

(65,616 posts)I always believe the people sending in the death threats are even worse, but evidently gender does not play into causing extreme emotions not matter who slaughters the lifeless corpse they stand over with a huge amount of ego.
You just shouldn't smile and pretend you beat Donkey Kong after slaying a beast in cold blood. It is bad form.

Shootin shit is fun!

(628 posts)Sure, some of them are decent folks. Maybe they even have a respect for nature. But then there are these kind. The kind with an inferiority complex that are only out there to shoot themselves a trophy. Or maybe just for the savage thrill of pointing and exclaiming "See what I got here? I killed that!"
When people like that wind up as a Kodiak bear's early lunch, I call that karma. Pity it rarely happens.

(65,993 posts)I can't imagine that this little princess, hating on what folks have stated and pointed back at her from beyond could have anything to say about it considering how she "reached out" with a bullet or two.
She won't care. She has a reality show, so humanity lost. Doesn't leave her aside mockery. Wonder if that was a canned hunt that this idiot embarked upon. You know, even real hunters have no respect for shitdiots taking part. Just saying.

(53,661 posts)In fact, he looks so well groomed and unscratched like a lion in the wild, I suspect this was another canned hunt like Tom Delay, Ted Nugent and other lovers of death and beauty relish in.

(1,933 posts)but not death threats. How anyone call smile after killing that beautiful animal is beyond my understanding. She has no heart and a disgrace to the female gender.

(64,539 posts)After staring down terrorists for eight years, former President George W. Bush is taking on a new challenge: a speaking gig at the Safari Club International Annual Hunters' Convention in Reno, Nevada. But wait, there's more! In addition to listening to Bush speak, conference attendees will also be able to attend a variety of hunting-related seminars such as: "Proper Boots -- Proper Care," "Through the Eyes of a Young Hunter," "Wild Game & Wine Pairing," and "Shotgun Chokes: How they Work," just to name a few.
Bush will deliver the keynote address on Saturday, January 23, the final night of the four-day convention. Though it's unclear what he'll talk about (WMD's in Iraq, maybe?), the convention's Web site boasts: "His intellect and humor will make this a night to remember and share for years and years." The former leader of the free world will be joined by such top-notch acts as comedian Frank Caliendo, Three Dog Night, the Bellamy Brothers, a country music group, Dennis Miller, and a Beach Boys cover band, "Papa Doo Run Run."
The Safari Club, which is closely associated with Republicans and gives millions to GOP candidates and causes, bills itself as an organization dedicated to "the freedom to hunt through policy advocacy, litigation and education for federal and state legislators to ensure hunting is protected for future generations." The group has spent close to $300 million on wildlife and hunting-related causes since it's founding in 1979, according to their Web site.
Liz Cheney, the daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney, will also speak at this convention, a move that will definitely burnish her conservative creds. SCI-PAC has a history as a Republican-friendly group. In 2004, it spent $339,431, with 89% going to Republican candidates; in 2006, it spent $527,714, with 86% going to Republicans; and in 2008, it spent $766,295, with 76% going to Republicans.
