John Edwards launches law firm aimed at social change

Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards is hanging up his shingle again with a law firm that will include his daughter, Cate.

WRAL-TV reported the Edwards Kirby law firm will have offices in Raleigh, N.C., and Washington. Edwards, who fell from grace after covering up an extramarital affair, and his former law partner David Kirby will be partners in the new firm.

"It is a privilege to practice again, and we want to take on cases that, through litigation, change social inequalities in favor of the greater good," Edwards told WRAL in a statement. "In building Edwards Kirby, we sought a team that has championed the causes of economic and social equality in court and in hundreds of communities across the country."

Cate Edwards, the eldest daughter of the 2004 Democratic vice presidential nominee, and her law partner, Sharon Eubanks, will be joining the firm.

But ONLY if he goes about his business on the up and up.

If not, and he reverts to some level of scumbaggery, he has my disdain.

While I always thought of him as shady, his verbiage when discussing inequality leads me to believe he truly understands the issue. I wish him and his clients the best. He has the ability to change lives and society for the better.

before drowning him with praise...

For all we know this could be a showpiece PR offensive greasing the skids for his eventual return to politics...

...then i wish him the best in that. Politically, he's done. And, he should be. But that shouldn't preclude him from doing legal work - especially if he can help the "underdogs" in our society and our system by doing it.

Wonder if he will be running ads during Judge Judy.

He is a flawed man, and I sure as hell wouldn't want to be married to the guy, but he has done a lot of good work for the poor. I think he was the only one to use the word poor in the entire 2008 campaign. Everybody else was busy chanting "middle class", "middle class" even though no one seems to know who the middle class is and both parties pass legislation that destroys the middle class. I'm glad he's back to doing good work trying to bring about social and economic equality.
