Romney: "Cutting welfare spending dramatically, I don't think will hurt the poor."

Romney: Cutting Welfare Won't Hurt Poor

Zillionaire Mitt Romney is a man of the people, a common man, somebody who knows how tough things are for the poor.

Fox host Chris Wallace pressed Romney on his support for the Ryan budget, suggesting that Ryan's plans to eliminate $700 billion in aid to states, including $127 billion in food stamps, would make Romney vulnerable to Democratic attacks in the general election. Romney said that he would help the poor by growing the economy, and suggested that cutting government benefits for the poor wouldn't cause problems. "Cutting welfare spending dramatically, I don't think will hurt the poor," Romney said.

One thing being poor early in life left me with and that was the ability to make do. I can be happy simply with a pot, a roof and a fan, the rest can come and go but it won't have much to do with my happiness.

When one gets rich enough, it apparently becomes increasingly difficult to imagine the situation of the poor.

I had an experience once with a soon-to-be relative who was rich and was raised by the rich. He informed me once with certain authority that "no one could possibly live on less than X dollars a year".

As politely informed him (polite because he was soon to marry my sister) that I had made just a little less than 1/2 of X for the last several years, and was still alive.

by preventing the poor from spending it will grow anything but the fortunes of bloated plutocrats just like him!

Just when I think he's said the stupidest, most heartless thing ever, the man just keeps on talking.

Because, of course, the money saved will pay for more tax breaks for the wealthy so they can continue to provide new (very low paying) jobs that will stimulate the economy.

It would be a lot easier if you just understood basic economics, really. ( )
