My guess is ...it is a guess, that modern sewage systems, with ..flush to toilets ...have saved more lives than all the doctors put together. Sounds crazy, but maybe true. Modern sanitation includes them, and demands them.. Actually, I kinda need two. one upstairs, and one downstairs...Stuart...

In Chicago's history, in the late 1880s or early 1890s, there was a terrible typhoid epidemic, because they were dumping human excrement in the Chicago River. so ...They spent a whole lot of public money and created the Chicago Sanitary District, and they reversed the flow of the river so it would dump the stuff somewhere else.??why not?..
So, they built some locks at the head of the river where it dumped into the lake..and built a ship and sanitary canal and the sent filthy water ..... the other way. Also, they spent a lot on sewage pipes and so on. All so the stuff you flush would not go into the river where we drank the water...Now, You didn't know that did you?

That is what happens when you teach Chicago history in the public schools like I did...

A couple of years ago when we still had Current TV, my daughter was telling me a news story that Current aired about the public service ads/billboards posted all over a third world Asian country trying to discourage people from taking craps on the public sidewalks.....

Yeeeeech!
