Boehner on Cocaine: One Law For Us, Another For ThemBy: DSWright Wednesday November 20, 2013 5:58 am

If there were any group of Americans who were supposed to be for the tragically ridiculous War on Drugs it would be Republicans in Congress right?
Apparently not. Not only was GOP Congressman Trey Radel arrested for cocaine possession, the Republican Speaker of the House can not even bring himself to condemn him.
Members of Congress should be held to the highest standards, and the alleged crime will be handled by the courts, Steel said. Beyond that, this is between Representative Radel, his family and his constituents.
You have to be kidding.
........................
Not to mention the charges are pretty solid as he bought the drugs from a DEA agent.
.....................
If Speaker Boehner has such a blase attitude towards the use of cocaine perhaps it is time to reexamine federal drug laws, otherwise he risks looking like an amazing hypocrite and moral coward.

(114,904 posts)yes, in Florida it would be a felony, in D.C. Nope. Misdemeanor.

(687 posts)I have always wondered since Mayor Bloomberg argues the Stop and Frisks works because drugs were found how much cocaine would be found if the NYPD stopped and frisked every stockbroker, lawyer and lobbyist walking in the financial district.

(9,610 posts)I have not had a job in the past decade that did not require a Drug/Background/Credit check. It seems as though we should expect the same for jobs that are deemed "more important."

Not as important as passing legislation that affects 350 million citizens.

(111,339 posts)because of those fancy parties the lobbyists set up for them. And I'm not talking about just their party, either. The temptations of the bright lights, big city, and bigger money are too much for a lot of those pore simple country boys to resist.

(18,641 posts)It should be up to his constituents to remove him from office. It's a misdemeanor, after all, and shouldn't be grounds for blanketed dismissal. Sure, he's a hypocrite, but that goes along with the GOP platform. The voters in that district should re-evaluate their own criteria for supporting candidates.
I'm not in favor of any drug testing, from the drive-thru window to the Oval Office, we shouldn't exclude great minds for what they did on their day off.
Better to IQ test than drug test.

(1,356 posts)office why?
Myrina
(12,296 posts)Exactly. A blazing coke habit is 'between him & his family' but having an exhibitionist habit is grounds for massive investigation from POTUS on down to dog catcher.

(18,641 posts)I'll bet Weiner regretted that move in retrospect.
So many others have done so much worse since then, it was absurd to quit over some internet hi-jinks. He didn't steal our tax money or betray the office. He was just an asshole. The voters should have decided if he deserved another term, and he should have said so at the time. I don't know who was advising him.

Informed him he would be charged? If it were one of us, our door would be kicked in and 50 SWAT goons would storm in.
I wonder if they let him keep the blow?
