1. Sorry...he's doing the contrite act and going into rehab.
His speech was just on Lawrence O'Donnell's program. He's taking a "leave" from Congress. His staff will still work his district office and his office in DC.

14. Didn't the word "Redemption" pop up?
Cue Rick Warren and the worshipful Little Woman making sad-face at the press conference.

2. He is a hypocrite of the first order!
He is a disgusting man beneath our contempt.
In a brief statement prior to sentencing, a grim Radel said he had “hit a bottom where I realize I need help,” and apologized for letting his constituents down.
Yes, Cooley, he realized that he needs help and will be saved...his contempt of others is to throw them to the wolves and let them rot. He believes that he is the better man. I agree, resign! |

8. I'm trying my best to keep this comment clean
I'm an old infantry soldier with over 28 years in uniform, including multiple tours in Vietnam.
I'm trying really, really hard to keep this comment clean. While on active duty, if I had failed a piss-in-the-bottle test, or, if I have been convicted of cocaine possession, I would have been either (1) out of the Army in a nansecond, or, (2) breaking rocks at Leavenworth for a LONG time. Now, as a retiree, if I am convicted of a felony . . . such as cocaine possession . . . I will lose my very generous military pension. Yet, these Congressional sonsabitches get to say "Well, damn, I'm really, really sorry I think I'll go into a plush rehab for a few months until everyone forgets what a piece of shit I am." Just saying. |

11. For this to happen, there needs to be public outcry, which I am waiting to hear.
There is none yet. He needs to resign or be expelled. Beyond being a hypocrite, breaking the law should not be countenanced for a member of the nation's legislature. He wants rehab, something he would not make available to the average person on the street. Anyone else likely would have ended up with a felony and a few bruises too.
Adding: Notice the crickets chirping from the Teabagger section and the RW media. |

17. 'a misdemeanor charge of cocaine possession'
What favor did he call in for that one? Most people get charged with a felony for having cocaine.

18. Addiction is a disease!
He needs treatment and rehab. Perhaps he will return with more compassion and empathy and will be able to change hearts and minds.
