But I have to nit-pick, here. The Constitution of the United States was produced and ratified in 1787. George Washington became our first President in 1788.

While 1788 was our first election, I suppose it's true that George Washington did not take office until 1789. That would make sense. Presidents always assume office in odd-numbered years. Here's what I remember:
