Why the Democrats made the right vote with the filibuster rule?

Because for the first time in our history, one of our political Parties had successfully obstructed the operation of our entire government The Democrats voted out of necessity to change the rule.

Through their whiny threats about the Democrats regretting this vote, they had no plans to give this President even one vote.

At first, they pretended that they were willing to help the President pass the Heritage-created health plan known as the ACA. For about a year, they wrangled and debated over it. In the end, those that said they would work with the Democrats backed out of it and decided to go along with the rest of their Party to obstruct everything this President proposed. Mitch McConnell even made the threat that his number one priority was to make Barack Obama a one-term President.

Republican obstructionism had become a threat to our government. Not only did they shut the government down, but they failed to fill judicial openings and let executive appointments linger without a vote. In one case, they refused to vote for a Secretary of Defense, a Republican, even while we were at war!

So the Democrats finally made the right decision. It should have been done before now but better late than never.

Some Democrats were naive to think that changing the rule would only help the Republicans when they gained the majority. If they had the Presidency, they would do just like Bush had done with the tax cuts and the wars - shove them down your throat and make you like it. There was a reason the taxcuts were never made permanent when they were first passed. They did it with a simple majority.

It would have been irresponsible to continue to let the Republicans obstruct in the way they have for the last 5 years. As for the argument that both sides did it, the Democrats never obstructed to the degree that it would cause the entire government to cease operating. The Republicans acted like thugs and needed to be knocked down. The former boxer and his Democratic Party won with a TKO today.
