Wen Dems were in the minority in the Senate, they didn't have the guts to filibuster anything

so may as well change the rules

Dems did not and would not exploit and abuse the filibuster the way the GOP does, so Dems have little to lose by changing the rules.

unlike the Republicans, they may not have filibustered EVERY thing, but they did so much of it that many Conservative pundits were arguing for the nuclear option. http://mediamatters.org/research/2013/11/21/flashback-when-conservatives-decried-filibuster/197001

wiki lists 28 judicial appointments that were stalled when the Bushler was in office. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Bush_judicial_appointment_controversies#List_of_stalled.2C_blocked_or_filibustered_nominees

The GOP at this point in its career believes in destroying government. They've elected a whole coterie of people who really believe that crap.

Dems are still trying to salvage what can be salvaged, because they are the adults in the room, even when outnumbered by tantrum-throwing toddlers.

Adults in the room has become little more than a tired rationalization for mealy mouthed, namby pamby, wishy washy tolerance of bad behavior clear to the point of complicity.

The meek might inherit the Earth but it will be a strip mined, charred husk by the time they do.

In fact, the filibuster should not merely be limited (as happened yesterday), it should be eliminated altogether.

The Senate (by its very nature) has been a thorn in the side of progress in this nation for as long as we have had our current government (since 1787). Weakening the capacity for small-population states to obstruct progress in the Senate will be a major benefit to us all.
