Man Leaves $250,000 and Home to Cats, Not Relatives

Two cats are each enjoying their nine lives in the lap of luxury, thanks to their deceased owner, who left his entire estate to his fluffy friends.

Leon Sheppard Sr., a retired businessman and Memphis, Tennessee, native who died in 2012, has five children, 12 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. However, in his will, he left his $250,000 fortune and 4,270-square-foot home in a gated community to his two cats, Frisco and Jake.

According to Memphis station WMC-TV, the cats are to live in the Sheppard home in a way that maintains their standard of living, and the $250,000 will be used for their care as well as the maintenance of the house. After Frisco dies (his age isn't known, but according to WMC-TV, he’s "old&quot , the remainder of the money will be divided among Sheppard’s relatives, with the understanding that Jake will be cared for.

It's unclear how Sheppard's family feels about the will; however, the local news reporter noted that they do not wish to comment.

Makes purrfectly good sense to me!

I sure wish I knew exactly how one goes about setting up a "Pet Trust".

I can sure understand this man's actions. It makes plenty of sense if you happen to have a bunch of greedy relatives that care about one thing and one thing only -- how much money do you have should you die tomorrow (otherwise you never hear a word from these needy "relatives&quot .

My cats have far too much love and dignity for me to ever ask or ponder such a question should I die.

Hmph!!!

cats, all of you lovely purring kitties!

But their brains are tiny and they are the products of hundreds of millions of years of evolution to be one thing, and one thing only- predators.

Short answer, if you were 6" tall instead of 6', Snookums might not give a shit about your bank account, but she would be more than happy to bat you senseless and then eat you in a most gruesome fashion.

So let's not anthropomorphize the sweet altruism of the feline too much.

I'm not contesting this fact.

Two of them are all of 4 mos. old and one knows how to type already ...

In fact, I could be him for all you know.

Type type type type ... MEOW!

4 mos. old. That's awesome. I love em at that age.

I miss having a kitty. I just don't miss having things like cat poop to deal with.

It has been quite devastating (one was 18 and the other was 12).

The grief has been just awful and I swore no more but ...

there is a shelter nearby ...

and yes ... yes ...

yes!

Here they were at the age of 13 weeks:

They've doubled in size easily.

They aren't like this for too long before they morph into what is know as a cat, a dignified creature, not some silly little kitty running around chasing a ball, etc.

Very cute indeed!

And yes, I'd leave everything I have to "them".

MEOW!

11 thousand to each relative. That's a grand vacation or a good start to an education.

I think the old guy had a lovely sense of humor.

Sells for 23 mill. Then we're talking a few more sheckles, and a lot more kitty chow.

So it would be house and contents plus bank account split 5 ways, minus whatever estate owes.
