Candy canes are.....well.....candy.

I hope that explains.

In the grand scheme of things, it's hard to separate snack foods out from 'real' foods, I guess. Trying to delineate those definitions would expand already complicated legislation to where every bill was 1200+ pages.

Besides, I'm sure they spend more on lobbying.

One state may tax all of them. Others none of them.

One state I know would tax the Doritos and not the cookies or candy. After digging, the tax was not on the candy due to the thought that children buy most of the candy and therefore should not be taxed.

I guess the junk is considered "food", but not the candy canes.

the grocery store has been selling xmas ornaments, etc. since before halloween. i do not celebrate xmas. haven't in years. to me it's just another day.

many years ago we went to my husband's manager's house for a xmas party. we just wanted to make an appearance and get the heck out of there. at one point the manager said to me "are you all ready for christmas"? i said "as ready as i'm gonna be". about 15 minutes later hubby made his excuses and we left. the manager's son said "don't go -- there's more good food coming out".

when we got in the car hubby and i both gave a sigh of relief.

over the years as IBM cut spending those xmas parties stopped.

in stores in town, at the beginning of October. I've been talking about the War on Halloween for years now, and it is getting worse, but nobody seems to notice that holiday getting the shaft.

I'm all Christmased out. I don't put a tree up or any of that stuff. I will buy sensible gifts for family members that actually celebrate the holiday, really, only 3 people, and that's it. Otherwise, it's just another day.

but I'm glad that junk food isn't taxed, considering that probably most of the people who buy that stuff (including myself) are not exactly well-off financially and that type of food is usually what we can afford and is what's most convenient to get.
That's just my $0.02 on this (no pun intended).
