Harvard Journal Essay Argues Jews Suffer Because They 'Killed Jesus'

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by In_The_Wind (a host of the General Discussion forum).

An essay published Wednesday on the website of the Harvard Ichthus, a campus "journal of Christian thought," argued "the Jews were marked out for destruction when they killed Jesus."

Entitled "Why us?," the essay was identified as having been written by "aJew" and said all the suffering the Jewish people have faced since the destruction of Jerusalem's Second Temple in approximately 70 A.D. came from God and was "just."

"We, the Jews, rejected God and hung Him up on a cross to die, and thus we richly deserved all of the punishments that were heaped on our heads over the last 2000 years," the essay said.

The anonymous writer went on to argue Jews can rid themselves of this "curse" by being baptized as Christians.

"Although such is the severity of God, the kindness of God is wonderful (Rom 11:22): in that me, a Jew, a children of Jews, and an utter sinner, can repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and the curse on me is forgotten," said the essay. "Rather than being at war with God (having killed Him), I have peace with God through Jesus Christ."

Possibly both.

Furthermore, what the hell is this for a Harvard-level journal?

Ew.

I rather like David Letterman's occasional theological outbursts. If you haven't heard one, they generally go like this: "God IS love. So God loves you. He can't NOT love you, because he MADE you. Stop worrying already! It's going to be alright."

All we really need to know.

and Jesus was a Jew?

If they really believe in their stupid religion they should be thanking Jews for saving them from the infinite punishment of hell by their sadistic god. Though, I thought it was supposed to be the Romans that killed Jesus?

to the best of our knowledge James the Just wasn't lynched, but thrown down some stairs and then later stoned.
That about the woman eating her child is nowadays considered just so much sensationalist gossip. Even the Donner Party had enough good sense to trade around.

weren't going too well for the Jews even before the crucifixion. The Northern tribes utterly wiped out by the Assyrians. The Southern tribes taken into captivity by the Babylonians and their temple and Jerusalem destroyed. A plaything for the the Egyptians, Greeks, Persians, and Romans. A few bright moments along the way (Cyrus letting them return to Jerusalem, the Maccabee revolt, and Herod the Great (of course that sucked being a regular Jew paying taxes to build that huge temple).

Nothing better than finding a Jew who will back up one's anti-Semitism. Though tripe like this usually plays better on the right, an anti-Semitic Jew is always a "useful" find.
